Announced at the 1968 Geneva Salon, the Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3 was the ultimate wolf in sheeps clothing. Visually, the car was practically identical to other W109s, but thanks to the 600 limousines fuel-injected 6,332-cc V-8 offered almost unimaginable performance. Air suspension, a limited-slip differential, and four-wheel disc brakes all came as standard. Capable of sprinting to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds and maintaining 220 km/h, the 6.3 could outgun almost anything else on the road including sports cars. Enthusiastic owners included Hollywood icon Steve McQueen, who famously ordered one after his Porsche 911 was left for dust by a 6.3 on the German Autobahn.

One of only 6,526 produced, the example offered here was first registered on 17 August 1970. The car has spent much of its life in France including 27 years in Paris and retains its period-correct yellow headlamp glass. Purchased by The Curated Collection in 2017 since when, just 72 kilometres have been added to the odometer this magnificent Benz presents in beautifully preserved condition. Finished in the original colour of Dunkelblau with matching leather, the Benz still wears its 75 number plates, and comes with handbooks, a Becker Mexico radio-cassette, and invoices from official Mercedes workshops.
