Given the success of the 190 SL and the marketability of the 300 SL, it is no wonder Mercedes-Benz was eager to announce the W113 generation SL-Class in the summer of 1963. The new 230 SL proved more than up to the task of succeeding its 190 SL predecessor. A fuel-injected 2.3L Inline-6, later enlarged to 2.5L and, eventually, 2.8L, ensured performance was in line with buyer desires and expectations. Paul Bracqs timeless styling which included a unique, slightly concave Pagoda hardtop helped ensure the W113 SL quickly won over the hearts of period celebrities and other wealthy buyers.

By December 1967, the company introduced the 280 SL. The larger engine kept performance figures up while also allowing for desirable comfort features including power steering and air conditioning. Like the SLs that came after, the W113 SL proved to be perfectly capable of acting as a sports car one moment and a luxury vehicle the next due to its exceptional suspension tuning and easily accessible power. Naturally, these cars have become increasingly desirable over the years, with values of high-quality examples growing dramatically. Between this and their endlessly enjoyable driving experience, W113 SL-Classes are superb vehicles for any discerning collector or enthusiast.

The spectacular 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Roadster featured here is finished in elegant Light Beige over an impeccably kept Forest Green interior with a removable body-color hardtop and a Black folding convertible top. This investment-grade US-market example was delivered new in Berlin, Germany via tourist delivery to its first owner, a Pan Am airline pilot. In June 1971, the car was brought to the West Coast where it remained until our acquisition. Factory equipped with air conditioning and a removable hardtop, this 280 SL the perfect example to drive and enjoy. Accompanying this exquisite Mercedes-Benz convertible is a complete history of ownership and service from new as well as its owner's manual, stamped service booklet, tools and, more. We are proud to offer what we believe to be one of the best 280 SLs on the market today to the most demanding collector, investor, or enthusiast who understands and appreciates the investment potential of this great classic!
