LARRY'S LEGEND LIVES

Given that the 21st century has seen a sort of return to the roots aspect for the Mustang, it was probably only a matter of time before the Boss 302 made a return. Over the last few years there's been steady and growing interest in the concept of a new-age Trans Am Special.

1982 Mustang GT

Jim Clarke led the charge with the creation of the 5.0 HO V8 for the Mustang in 1982 and was responsible for the continuous improvement of the 5.0 throughout the '80s. What Jim and his team accomplished is truly amazing.

1970 Ford Mustang convertible with a 408w stroker for sale. VIN: 0F03H119428. Current California tags and pink slip in my name. My first car was a 1964 ½ Mustang and I’ve kicked myself for selling it for the last 30 years. I’m a Mustang nut through and through. I finally saved enough, bought this and built it like I was going to keep it forever. However, I decided that I need to spend more time with my kids in the few years that they are still in the house. So I’m selling “Lucille” to buy some desert toys and a pontoon boat so we can do more family things together. I’ve easily got 50k into this and am asking 35k or trader for Pontoon boat of equal value or Pontoon plus cash.

• Less than 500 miles on rebuilt 351w stroked to 408 by L&R engines (one of the best SBF machine shops in Southern California) and installed by Superior Auto. Scat rotating assembly. Factory heads. 9.5 compression. Edelbrock carb and intake. Cam has enough vacuum for the factory disc brakes. (I have Comp cam card) On paper, it should put out roughly 400HP.
• Engine bay was painted two-stage black while the engine was out getting rebuilt.
• 2-year-old battery.
• MSD ignition.
• Tuff Stuff water pump.
• Powermaster 1 wire alternator.
• Fan from a 429CJ. Aluminum radiator. Engine will sit at 190-200 degrees all day long in Southern California traffic.
• Convertible top canvas is in great shape. No tears and not fadedNew hydraulic pump.
• 3.55 gears on a posi Ford 9" rear end.
• Headers and dual exhaust.
• Factory power steering.
• Built AOD transmission swap with upgraded bands. (I still have the original running C4 that you can have) with auxiliary cooler and SPAL fans. I swapped the trans because I wanted overdrive to drive it on the freeways. I’ll cruise at 2100 RPM’s doing 70MPH on the freeway with 165-170 degrees trans temp. Torque converter was replaced at the same time just but I don’t remember the brand name/stall speed. PLM deep tranny pan.
• Dakota Digital gauges (tach/speedo/voltage/gas/oil/water) with extra Autometer gauges for trans temp and vacuum. I have original dash & gauges.
• Classic Car Stereo OEM look-alike with Bluetooth
• Just about everything that I’ve taken off or replaced on this car has been saved and will be included with sale in case you want to do a restoration.
• Receipts for just about everything

Negatives:
• The paint is a solid 10 footer. It’s not going to win best in show but it looks fine. I wanted a driver, not a trailer queen so I never did anything about it. It has a couple nicks.
• The fabric around the bottom of rear glass window needs to be reattached to canvas top. Top and sides are all attached fine; it’s just the bottom need to be “reglued.”I haven’t done it because I haven’t found the correct adhesive.
• The cable/bezel for the driver’s side rear mirror is missing. They’re sold as a unit with the side view mirror and I couldn’t find one that matched the color of the car so I left it as is.

Zero rust. California car. You’re welcome to take it to your mechanic and have him check everything out. I take it out on day trips, to the beach, etc. and would have not any concerns driving it anywhere. I’ll include the inspection report from when I bought the car, PDF’s of all receipts for work I’ve done, pictures of repairs, original parts, etc. to the buyer. I’m not in a rush to sell, so please don’t waste either of our time with lowball offers. No, I won’t take 25k. I have a Youtube link of the car running around the block. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NnKyQx7Ugg&feature=youtu.be
