1970 Dodge Dart
Car for sale by Carroll St Auto & Collectibles in Manchester, New Hampshire 03102
From around 1956 until the mid 1980s, Dodge, Plymouth and even Chrysler squads were the most ubiquitous police cars in North America. In fact, the biggest department, the NYPD, used Plymouth and Dodge squads almost exclusively until the rear-drive M body car was finally axed in 1989.
The no-frills Savoy two-door sedan was home to another engine of considerable repute, the infamous 413 Max Wedge, a Super Stock monster block Chrysler introduced in the spring of 1962.
Classic Car Overview
Popping eyes with its correct Hemi Orange paint, this beautifully restored 1970 Dart Swinger 340 is likely even nicer than when it was new. Close inspection reveals impressively solid sheetmetal with rock solid quarter panels, floors and trunk pan and panels that are arrow straight with even gaps. That brilliant paint is accented with sparkling chrome and stainless trim as well as a black Bumblebee stripe and factory rally wheels fitted with meaty BFGoodrich T/As. During the restoration the hood was finished in flat black, further adding to this awesome muscle cars look.
The Darts interior looks factory fresh as virtually everything is new, including the dash pad, door panels, headliner and carpet. Further proof of the cars no expense spared restoration is the fact that even typically overlooked items such as the seatbelts, seat hardware and rear package shelf have been replaced or restored as needed. Being a Swinger 340, this car came standard with a rally instrument package which includes a tach as well as gauges rather than idiot lights to keep tabs on coolant temperature and oil pressure. A Hurst shifter with the classic white cue ball knob signals the Swinger 340s true personality.
Swing up the hood and the numbers-matching 340 looks like it just left the assembly line. That recently rebuilt mill sits in a show-detailed engine compartment and runs every bit as good as it looks. Sharp-eyed Mopar buffs will note that the radiator is not factory, as an upgraded aluminum radiator was fitted to ensure optimal cooling. Power steering and manual front disc brakes make this muscle car easy to drive, while the numbers-matching four-speed transmission and 3.23 Sure Grip rear end make it a blast to run through the gears.
With only around 6,000 miles since its fastidious nut-and-bolt restoration, this 1970 Swinger 340 is a turn-key, show and go car that will impress the fussiest A body enthusiast.
