Classic Car Overview

Beautiful restoration with several smart upgrades. Strong-running 340 with automatic transmission. Correct Sublime with black trim. 17-inch Rallye wheels and modern bucket seats. A killer small block Challenger that s ready to rock!

Someone spent a great deal of time and money on this 1970 Dodge Challenger and it shows. Aside from the vivid Sublime paint, it has a high-quality shine to it that suggests quality workmanship. The car was restored a few years ago, but they stuck to the original recipe aside from a few choice upgrades (we ll talk about those in a moment) this car is pretty much the way it was in 1970. Someone knew what they were doing when they ordered this cool Challenger. Brilliant paint, a potent small block, and a few creature comforts to make it civilized on the street. It certainly has the right performance look with the blacked-out hood treatment, hood pins, and Go-Wing on the back, and obviously you re not going to be sneaking around with that spectacular Sublime paint job. This car practically glows in the dark! Fit and finish are excellent throughout and for an E-body, the doors close with a solid THUNK rather than a hollow whap, and that s pretty hard to do on one of these cars. Panel gaps are good all around, there s a deep shine to the final finish, and, well, we can t find many nits to pick. It was obviously an expensive restoration that has received proper care since it was completed. This is a really nice car!

The black vinyl interior has been augmented with a pair of highly bolstered buckets that are far more supportive than the original chairs. They seem appropriate for the Challenger s performance mission and you ll find they re comfortable enough for long cruises and highway trips. Other details include that gorgeous wood-rimmed wheel, custom Dakota Digital gauges that take the place of the original Rallye setup, and a set of floor mats with Sublime stitching that ties it all together. The center console is one of the coolest units of the era, and the 3-speed automatic shifter is easy to manage even in the heat of battle. There s an original AM/FM radio in the center of the dash, but we re guessing that the car will be entertainment enough. The back seat is wearing what we believe to be original seat covers, which suggests that this has always been a well-kept car, and the headliner is in excellent condition. The trunk is neatly fitted with a reproduction mat, and you can see from the inside that this car wears its original quarters and trunk extensions.

The engine is a correct 340 cubic inch V8 topped by a 4-barrel carburetor. It may be the car s matching-numbers engine, but we can neither confirm nor deny since we ve been unable to find any numbers in the usual locations. That doesn t mean they re not there, but we re not really willing to scrape off a lot of paint to find them. At any rate, it s rebuilt to stock specs and highly detailed, including that big air cleaner assembly with reproduction decals, proper Hemi Orange engine enamel, and correct accessories. It starts easily and once it s off the choke, it s ferociously fast, particularly for a small block. A big radiator lives up front, so it always runs cool, and power steering and power disc brakes make it easy to handle in today s traffic. The TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic snaps through the gears without any effort, and with 3.23 gears in the 8.75-inch rear end, it s a comfortable cruiser on the highway. The undercarriage is nicely detailed, and we like the contrasting colors that make it look factory-correct. The dual exhaust system features stainless mufflers that sound spectacular, and it ends in correct polished quad tips under the rear valence. There are a lot of new parts under here, including lines and hoses, a new gas tank, and recent shocks, so the car is ready to drive. 17-inch Rallye replicas look spectacular and carry staggered 225/50/17 front and 235/60/17 rear for a performance rake.

Documentation includes a folder full of receipts and manuals.

Beautifully finished, fun to drive, and smartly upgraded, this Challenger just plain works. There s a lot of money invested here to make it into the car you see today. If you ve been looking for a clean E-body that gets everything right, this would be a great choice. Call today!
