Classic Car Overview

1970 Detomaso Mangusta for sale! Motorcar Classics is proud to present this 1970 Detomaso Mangusta featured in black with the original saddle leather interior. The De Tomaso Mangusta was unveiled at the 1966 Turin Motor Show and entered production in 1967. The Mangusta, a word that means mongoose in Italian, was a clever nod to the cars intended purpose to be a fierce competitor to the Shelby Cobra. Giorgetto Giugiaro, one of the most renowned automotive designers of all time, was responsible for the Mangustas design. The Mangustas styling was characterized by its low, wide stance and sharp, angular lines. The cars most distinctive feature was the unique gullwing-style engine covers, which provided a striking visual and allowed for easy access to the engine and luggage compartment from both sides of the car. Underneath the Italian coachwork our Mangusta is powered by a Ford 302CI V8 engine mated to a five-speed ZF manual transmission with classic gated shifter, which sends power back to a limited slip differential and out to the rear wheels. The Mangustas performance was impressive for its time, with a top speed of around 155 mph and acceleration from 0-60 mph in under 6 seconds. Our Mangusta is one of only 401 built. It is the desirable quad-headlamp configuration. This Mangusta is fitted with dual circuit Girling disc brakes, and Campagnolo 15 x 8 rear and 15 x 7 front wheels. Its powered by the later 302 Ford V8 producing 230 bhp and 310 lb ft of torque. This rare Mangusta is an older restoration which drives well. The interior is excellent. The car has never been damaged. The paint is very presentable, but has some issues. The original jack and tools are included. We would describe it as a high-level driver, a #3+ on the scale. Your inspection is invited.
