Classic Car Overview

I am reluctantly selling my RARE (less than 3823 units produced) 1970 Monte Carlo SS 454; LS5 (469.0 CID after rebuild). Documented numbers matching, VIN and block match build date Sept 1970. Car never smoked in and always garaged. I am the 2nd owner and purchased the car from the original owner who is in his early 80's. I have tons of paperwork to go with the car including the original invoice from 10/2/1969 which I have included in one of the pictures. I have tons of receipts and original dealer documentation that is as equally impressive which speaks to the excellent condition of this rare muscle car. Chrome, glass, trim, seats, carpet, dash, rear speaker panel are all in exceptionally great condition. The interior is 100% original and as you can see, in excellent condition. Being an extreme car enthusiast who appreciates originality, I chose not to modify or add anything to the interior of the car. Keeping this rare 70 Big-block Super Sport in its original condition has been my goal. This beauty looks like it's been sitting in a time capsule. Engine was professionally rebuilt in early 2026 by Lewis Racing Engines in Laytonville, Ca. and has less than 1000 miles. The car has 53000 ORIGINAL miles which I can substantiate as being true through stacks of receipts and registration documents. I'm posting this at a price that should interest those who can appreciate and understand the value of a numbers matching 70's Big-block Super Sport. That said, I will entertain any reasonable offers. Selling price matters to me but having this go to a home that can appreciate the value and rarity of this muscle car matter just as much. I will NOT respond to tire kickers or those who feel the need to low ball me or insult me by offering me way less what they know the car is worth. This car is ABSOSULETY AMAZING! Your neighbors will hear you coming and going.  Don't forget to check out the video. Additional videos and pictures available upon request and I'm happy to answer any questions. BTW, I didn't add A/C to the car because again, I wanted to keep the car in its original condition and didn't see the need to add anything that didn't come from the factory.  Thanks for looking!

Variant Breakdown (RPO Z20 SS 454)

While the Monte Carlo line offered various small- and big-block options, the SS 454 was a distinct package with specific content and emblems. It was produced for only two model years:

Production

1970 SS 454 (RPO Z20)

SS 454 badging; heavy-duty suspension; front discs; rear automatic level control; Monte-specific grille; bright moldings typical of Monte Carlo; Rally-type wheels and raised-white-letter tires common

Collector interest reflects its brief run and specification. Documented, numbers-matching SS 454s trade at a premium over small-block Montes, with highly original or expertly restored cars commanding strong prices. Historically, well-kept examples have sold in a broad range depending on provenance, options, and correctness, with exceptional cars capable of reaching notably higher results than driver-grade examples.
