Classic Car Overview

1970 Chevrolet Malibu Chevelle SS396 Tribute For consignment, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS396 tribute with a title verified 78,602 actual miles now sporting a later model 454ci V8. This standard sport coupe has been transformed to honor one of the most iconic muscle cars in muscle car history and the paint, wheels, and interior make this a show stopping, ground stomping SS tribute. Exterior Fathom Green covers this car beautifully with steel panels that are straight, and gaps are well minded while white painted SS wide track stripes race from front to back on this car, skipping the roof, just like the real deal. Brightwork includes stainless steel wheel well surrounds, SS chrome rimmed emblems, fantastic bumpers that hug the sides, mirrors, door handles and window trim, all looking nice. Gotta love the gently sloping rear B pillar as it meets the trunk and enhances the already muscular stance of the car, surely a feather in GMs design teams cap. Authenticity is bolstered by the 14-inch Chevrolet SS wheels and Wide Oval tires with letters out. A cowled hood is held in place with stainless hood pins and rises slightly over the flat plain. Paint, trim, glass, and light lenses are all in impeccable condition and we could not find any glaring exterior flaws. Interior Looking mostly original, we see door panels that are nice and straight vinyl patterns in black and include the SS badge. Thin chrome metal trim rises above the armrest and also split the door panels below where it goes from ribbed design to textured black vinyl. Front buckets are covered in black vinyl as well and include headrests and both seats are in great shape. The rear bench shares the pattern and overall condition. Black loop carpeting appears like new and is covered with carpeted mats. Behind the original looking steering wheel is the SS dash with a clock, tachometer and speedometer flanked by three smaller gauges and the headlight knob to present symmetrical circles. An AM radio and vent panel is to the right housed in the same dash panel while an oil pressure gauge has been added to the front of a center console. The horseshoe shifter is like the throttle on a 747 in a factory console thats easy to read and presents in clean condition. The black headliner is high and tight, and the trunk is clean and houses a small mat for protection. Drivetrain Another money shot with the clean engine bay housing a 454ci orange block V8, receiving copious amounts of fossils and air through a 4-barrel carburetor. A TH350 transmission with a manual valve body in 3-speed automatic form is behind the powerful mill, and in back, a 12 bolt turns the tires with consignor stated 3.73 gears and Positraction, however the stamping code on the axle denotes a 3.31 Posi ratio. Headers are also present to begin the exhaust end of things. Undercarriage Fantastically clean underneath with what wed call show ready conditions. The dual exhaust runs through FlowMaster mufflers finally finding an exit via chrome tips under the bumper. Suspension here is coil springs up front with a 4 link with coil springs in back. Power brakes are onboard as front discs and rear drums. Drive-Ability The 454 not only sounds great but eagerly moves this muscle car forward and it doesnt take three seconds to understand theres some serious power underfoot. But we have a very firm brake pedal and so braking action is marginal, causing us to keep things at a more pedestrian speed, during which the car tracks straight and certainly handles well. We note the heater blower does not operate at high speed and the clock is not working. Beyond these things, all functions operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. 1970 Chevelles are hot, and we would venture to say that regardless of drivetrain, nicely sorted and clean Chevelles pack an overnight bag to visit the mall because they dont stay long. This one is sure to join the others in finding a new home somewhere in the world and will represent the make and model in fine fashion. 136370B105266 1-Chevrolet 36-Malibu V8 37-2 Door Hardtop Sport Coupe 0-1970 B-Baltimore, MD Assy Plant 105266-Sequential Unit Number TRIM TAG ST 70 13637-1970 Malibu 2 Door Hardtop Sport Coupe BDY B013113-Baltimore Body # TR 791-Ivory Coated Fabric Buckets PNT 28 28-Fathom Blue 09B-2nd Week September Classic Auto Mall is home to more than 1,000 classic and collectible vehicles for sale via consignment in a climate controlled 336,000-square foot showroom (thats more than 8 acres!).
