Classic Car Overview

1970 Chevrolet Malibu Station Wagon For consignment, a 1970 Chevrolet Malibu station wagon with a title verified 137,642 actual miles. Shes a bit rough on the inside and out, but the front and rear bench seats are ridiculously clean, and it has great wheels, all of which might inspire the next owner to bring the rest of the car up a few ticks cosmetically. Its got a great shape and stance, even a luggage rack on top, and can be driven while youre delivering a bit of TLC. Exterior Astro Blue paint is far from pristine, (more on that soon), and is enhanced by a cowl induction hood wearing black SS stripes, giving a cue as to what this car could become. Tinted glass covers big doors and a long rear quarter with miles of overhang over the rear axle. In back, the epic Malibu tail lights flanking a left hinged tailgate with embedded reverse lights and a window that goes down. SS badges adorn all four sides of the car, a nod to the legendary muscle car, and 15-inch Chevrolet SS wheels, black with a polished rim, serve as the shoes on this family hauler. Theyre in great shape and the wagon hunkers down over them with a slightly aggressive rake. Imperfections are numerous and include flaking paint and rust, cracking paint over filler, various shades of blue paint, areas of bubbling, chips, scratches, pitted metal, and rust around window reveals. Interior Lets start with the door panels of blue plastic and vinyl which are mostly weathered with some tears, staining, and soiling. The front and rear bench seats, both blue vinyl, are in great shape, almost looking out of place on a car that shows patina throughout. A standard steering wheel faces the driver with cracks and patina, leading to a black plastic instrument cluster thats a bit dirty but intact, taking in the A/C panel in the center and an AM/FM/CD player right next to the lighter with faded labeling. Blue loop carpet shows some age, as does the headliner above which is intact, but dirty and missing the dome light cover. The way back covers have some scratches and surface rust and no carpet cover and the compartment underneath them has some scaley surface rust. Drivetrain Driver quality conditions prevail in the engine bay where our consignor states a 350ci ZZ4 crate engine was installed. Its fueled by a 4-barrel carburetor and backed by a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission sending power to standard 10 bolt rear. Surface rust covers the brake booster but its presence indicates the supply of power brakes with front discs and rear drums. Undercarriage Driver quality here as well with plenty of surface rust and some residual oil on the pans and crossmember. Dual exhaust finds Turbo style mufflers that look newer than the rest of the underside, and give way to steel pipes that exit behind each rear wheel. Suspension consists of coil springs up front and a 4 link with coil springs out back. Drive-Ability A family friendly front bench seat provides the perch for driving and of course, provides zero side support and not much grip, so mind you speed in the corners! And thats just what we did as we sparked the 350 to life and hit the road, in this case, our short test loop. The 350 delivers smooth power, as 350s do, and the car tracks straight and handles well with minimal complaints from the bushings. The freshly charged A/C works, and so do the rest of the functions on the car. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. Vintage wagons remain a hot commodity, and the Malibu has great lines and a few pieces that will translate well into a restoration. And when you go to the swap meet to source parts, guess what youll be driving? A 1970 Malibu wagon with a usable cargo area that would accept dirty parts without issue, at least for now. If youre like us, youre already thinking about the potential colors this car could wear, and how that cool roof rack will play into the build. Wagons are cool, and this one screams potential long after screams of are we there yet have faded from its essence. 136360R231273 1-Chevrolet 36-Malibu V8 36-4 Door Station Wagon 0-1970 R-Arlington, TX Assy Plant 231273-Sequential Unit Number TRIM TAG ST 70 13636-1970 Malibu Station Wagon BDY BT00945-Arlington Body # TR 764-Metallic Blue Coated Fabric PNT 25 25-Astro Blue 04C-3rd Week April Classic Auto Mall is home to more than 1,000 classic and collectible vehicles for sale via consignment in a climate controlled 336,000-square foot showroom (thats more than 8 acres!).
