Classic Car Overview
This 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle two-door sport coupe underwent a professional frame-off restoration and is finished in Tuxedo Black with white SS-style stripes over an Ivory White interior. Power is supplied by a non-original 454ci big-block V8 reportedly built to LS6 specifications and paired with a Muncie M22 Rock Crusher four-speed manual transmission. The previous owner purchased the Chevelle in 2024 and invested over $30k of upgrades and improvements during his ownership.
Equipment and modifications include a Holley 750-cfm Double Pumper carburetor, a Bullet camshaft and lifters, tubular headers, large-cap HEI ignition, a functional cowl-induction hood, 3.31:1 AxleTech ring-and-pinion gears, a Precision Shaft Technologies driveshaft, power windows, a tilt steering column, Dakota Digital instrumentation, a retro-style digital stereo, front disc brakes, and SS-style wheels.
Additional work performed since completion of the restoration has included installing a new clutch, resurfacing the flywheel, replacing the fuel tank and sending unit, fitting a Cold Case aluminum radiator, replacing the front wheel bearings and rear coil springs, rebuilding and reupholstering the seats and door panels, and installing an LED taillight conversion. The odometer currently indicates 87,602 miles, and total mileage is believed to be approximately 87k, though true mileage is unknown due to the installation of replacement instrumentation.
Exterior
The body was originally Cortez Silver and later refinished in Tuxedo Black with contrasting white SS-style stripes as part of the frame-off restoration. The finish is described as having benefited from extensive body preparation, and the car features straight bodywork, consistent panel fit, and a high-gloss appearance.
Exterior equipment includes a functional cowl-induction hood with hood pins, dual side mirrors, SS-style badging, polished bumpers, bright window and body trim, and replacement indicator lenses. The seller reports that the bumpers, emblems, handles, mirrors, and associated exterior hardware were renewed or restored during the project. An LED conversion has been installed in the taillights, and a replacement windshield-wiper motor was also fitted.
Interior
The cabin is upholstered in Ivory White and features high-back front bucket seats with headrests, a center console, a Hurst shifter with a white cue-ball-style knob, an SS-style steering wheel, and a tilt steering column.
The front and rear seats were recently rebuilt using restored frames and new foam before being reupholstered. The door panels were also rebuilt and reupholstered using new mounting hardware. Additional appointments include power windows and a retro-style digital Bluetooth stereo with connections for external audio devices. Retro styled air conditioning was also integrated into the existing vent system.
A Dakota Digital VHX gauge package has been installed and provides instrumentation for vehicle speed and engine functions. The digital odometer indicates 87,602 miles. The odometer was set to the previous mileage reading when the new gauges were installed.
Engine
The non-original 454ci big-block V8 is reported to have been built to LS6 specifications and is said to produce approximately 450 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. The engine is fitted with the following components:
Holley 750-cfm Double Pumper four-barrel carburetor
Bullet camshaft and lifters
Large-cap HEI distributor and ignition system
Tubular steel exhaust headers
Chrome valve covers
Cowl-induction air cleaner assembly
Cold Case aluminum radiator
Replacement fuel tank and sending unit
Replacement ignition and plug-wire components
The engine bay was detailed during the restoration and presents with a combination of factory-style components and performance upgrades.
Transmission and Driveline
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a Muncie M22 Rock Crusher four-speed manual transmission operated by a console-mounted Hurst shifter.
Recent driveline work included installing a new clutch kit and resurfacing the flywheel. A Precision Shaft Technologies driveshaft has also been fitted, along with AxleTech 3.31:1 ring-and-pinion gears. The 3.31 gearing is intended to provide a balance between strong acceleration and more relaxed highway operation.
Suspension and Steering
The suspension and steering were renewed during and following the restoration. Recent work included installing:
Moog tie-rod components
New front wheel bearings
New rear coil springs
Brakes
Braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.
Wheels and Tires
The car rides on SS-style wheels finished in gray with polished trim rings and center caps. The wheels are mounted with BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires featuring raised white lettering.
