Cool Classics: Chevrolet Chevelle

Chevrolet introduced the Chevelle in 1963 as a 1964 model. Though quite large by today's standards, it was classified as a midsize car. What wasn't midsize was the level of passion garnered from the very beginning, a passion that has continued for decades.

Classic Car Overview

1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu If you are going to grab a bowtie Chevelle, 1970 is definitely the year to have. Chevrolet got it all right for this year with the lines, trims and power combination. Our consignment gets it all right with a frame off restoration, all new panels wearing a snappy color change from green to orange, air ride suspension, a LS engine swap and beautiful trimmings and of course its a 1970. Plenty of WOW factor in this one so read on, and then come and get it! Exterior Near perfect Atomic Orange drapes this cars steel panels which mind their gaps very nicely. Black painted stripes race from front to back and are only broken up by the solid orange painted top, which is also pristine. Dual headlights along with a dual stacked chrome rimmed openings of the grille highlight the black horizontal ribbings within. A lower mirror like bumper and the dual rear facing cowl induction hood grace this 1970 masterpiece. A shout out to the rear bumper with the inset tail lights within a flush mount bumper on the rear of the car, all shiny and new as well. This bottoms off a gracefully sloping downward rear glass and trunk lid which when viewed from the side is THE reason for the visual preference of the 1970 model year. Speaking of the glass, its near perfect with dark tinting and excellent stainless surrounds, which add perfectly to the sinister vibe. 20-inch multi-spoke Diablo wheels are all around and wrapped by low profile 255/40ZR20 radials from the 28th week of 2017 on all 4 corners. Interior Youll be seeing black on this interior with just fabulous factory style black door panels that are nearly showroom, wonderful charcoal black Camaro ZR1 leather and suede buckets up front that have some orange stitching and ZL1 embroidery in the headrests for a little extra interest. A rear bench provides room for 2 more and again is from a Camaro showing in 2+2 bucket style format. This paves the way for the pristine black carpeting that is flooding the floors. A black padded vinyl topper covers the dash and the front houses the standard elongated rectangle sweep speedometer with a row of warning lights below. To the left is the controller for the RideTech adjustable air ride system which can also be controlled via a phone app and to the drivers right is the display unit for the Holley Terminator X EFI system. The factory heater slides and upgraded AM/FM/Bluetooth stereo are here as well. Fronting this snappy dash is a flat bottom NRG Innovations rally style steering wheel atop the factory steering column. As for the headliner...you guessed it more pristine black vinyl with vent holes throughout. Just really well done and preserved inside and a beautiful contrast to the orange exterior. Not to be overlooked is the truck with its custom black carpet liner, stereo amp, and speaker box. Drivetrain A great looking drivetrain is in the glossy charcoal gray painted engine bay and is modern 5.3 liter LS V8. Holley Terminator X EFI with Holley injectors, a stage 3 camshaft, and red high voltage ignition wires add to the mechanical jewelry, and it just goes on and on. A 3-speed TH400 transmission is on back and this sends power to a 12-bolt axle bringing up the back. All in very nice condition. Undercarriage Clean and rust free nearly as close to like new as you can get thanks to all new floors from the firewall back. This is supported by a solid and rust free frame finished in an industrial silver that has independent suspension with adjustable airbags up front, and a 4 link with airbags in the rear, both courtesy of RideTech. Power disc brakes are all around and shiny headers snake their way down from the LS mill and join up with stainless steel piped Flowmaster muffler equipped exhaust with chrome tips peeking out under the rear bumpers. Just a wonderfully restored and upgraded presentation here. Drive-Ability As usual with these early 1970s Chevrolet muscle cars, my decoder/editor and I clamor to drive these, so we flipped a coin and it landed on its side, so we both drove it! (One of the many bennies working at CAM). Anyway, she fired right up with a roar, and we were speeding our way to the test track. Here we found this car to be in ship shape mechanically, running smoothly, accelerating with no end, and cornering like a big lumbering muscle car from 1970. We noted the speedometer and odometer were non-functional during our drive, but the comfy modern ZR1 seats more than made up for it. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. Restoration and modifications are a wonderful thing, especially when it is done to this level, and this one will not let you down. Near retina burning Inferno Orange paint, custom Diablo wheels, wide black stripes, a 5.3 liter LS engine, along with air ride suspension and Holley EFI all come together to make a winner. Like the original, all the boxes are checked and the is are dotted as well as ts crossed on this one, so come and get it, it will slide out of here very fast, just like it handled our test track. 136370B152083 1-Chevrolet 36-Malibu V8 37-2 Door Hardtop Sport Coupe 0-1970 B-Baltimore, MD Assy Plant 152083-Sequential Unit Number Classic Auto Mall is home to more than 1,000 classic and collectible vehicles for sale via consignment in a climate controlled 336,000-square foot showroom (thats more than 8 acres!).
