Classic Car Overview
1970 Chevrolet K-10 Long Bed Flare Side Pickup For consignment, a 1970 K-10 long bed flare side pickup truck, a truck with origins in Washington State and some fantastic authentic patina that will have the guys at Cars and Coffee pondering your presence, right before they ask you where you got it! Exterior The grille is representative of the truck because its fully intact but missing enough paint to tell the story of a hard working life, matched by the yellowing front bumper with rock chips, rust spots, and slightly misfitting corner. All of the emblems bear evidence of a work truck and the Medium Blue Green paint with an aqua tone is mismatched with patina in a way that would be difficult to manufacture. Theres a wonderful rim of rust around the tailgate insert and the industrial rear bumper embodies strength and hardiness. Oxidized paint has its share of scratches, dings, and surface rust and the new, plank lined bed almost looks out of place, but well take the contrast! It looks great in the black walled bed and metal hardware and window frames all look good. 15-inch wheels wear 31x10.5R15LT tires with an early 2021 manufacturing date. Interior Aqua painted inner doors hint at what the exterior might have looked like when new, but also carry a bit of patina as well, but are in great condition. Low back black bucket seats are vinyl with a Western texturized center band. The seats flank a center console storage bin with built-in ashtray and added wood crafted cup holder. The aqua columned steering wheel appears to be from a later vintage and leads to a flat gauge cluster with seven circles relaying 6 bits of information. Flat, hard, and painted surfaces make up the rest of the dashboard where a panel fills in for the radio delete and basic vent controls are below it. The gear shifter and range selector are mounted on the floor, wearing rubber boots over aqua high pile house style carpet that shows some age and loop carpet is on the back wall behind the seats. Drivetrain Under the hood, a driver quality 350ci V8 with a Holley 4-barrel carburetor on top. The 4-speed manual sends power to the rear wheels first where 3.07 gears, stamped with a Positraction code, and then to the front axle with same gear ratio. Power brakes are employed on the truck with drums all around. Undercarriage Well, of course, driver quality under here with the exception of the new planks seen in the bed. Plenty of surface rust underneath and much of it pitted, colors major components but invasive rust is not seen. Oil makes a few appearances on the rear differential, the U-joints, the transfer case, and the transmission. Leaf springs are front and rear and the dual exhaust flows through stock style mufflers before exiting behind each rear wheel. This is a rugged underside with years of patina but no broken parts. Drive-Ability The reliable 350 starts on demand and rolls this long bed onto the test track where knobby tires make some noise but track well. This is big steel and not a race truck, but the 350 does its job and the power drums go to work. All functions were working as they should during our time behind the wheel. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. In 2024 patina is cool. Maybe were jaded from the amazing two stage paint jobs we see on a daily basis, but authentic patina, especially on a pickup truck, gives us the fizz, to borrow a term from Wranglerstar. This truck says, please get out of my way because I have more important things to do than polish my car all day. And bonus, its a 4x4!
