Classic Car Overview

Spectacular GSX tribute built from a real-deal GS. 4-speed, cold A/C, and a correct 455 built to Stage 1 specs. Fantastic paint and bodywork, beautiful interior, everything works. The biggest, baddest Buick of all, ready to drive and enjoy! This is the one-there was no muscle car of the era that made more torque than the Buick GS and GSX. 510 lb-ft. on tap makes these cars feel special, and with all the luxury features of a Buick, theyre the muscle cars for grown-ups. Today, the limited-production GSX is a six-figure car, rightfully taking its place with the LS6 Chevelle and GTO Ram Air IV at the top of the General Motors pecking order. But if a real GSX is a little bit out of reach, this awesome Saturn Yellow Buick should be tempting. Its a real-deal code 44637 GS, so it already has a bit of a pedigree and thats where the GSX started as well. It was originally code 68 Burnished Saddle, so a color change is understandable and if youre going to change colors, why not go all-in on the king of the hill? The paint job is about 12 years old at this point, but the superb workmanship still shows extremely well with a brilliant shine, excellent panel gaps, and very, very few signs of use. The GS stripes were painted on, so theyre not decals, and the blacked-out hood has correct nostrils feeding the 455 underneath. Youll also find correct NOS front and rear spoilers, sport mirrors, and appropriate GSX badging that make the illusion complete. Sure, an expert might be able to spot the difference, but very few other people will. Its just gorgeous in every way.The black bucket seat interior is standard GS fare, with comfortable seats, a 4-speed Hurst shifter with cue ball knob, and a slightly more luxurious feel than its Chevrolet and Pontiac siblings. Correct patterns and materials were used throughout and as with the bodywork, the interior remains in outstanding condition with almost zero wear. Theres a full array of fully operational factory gauges, including the hood tach out there leading the way, and even the clock keeps time-nice! A trio of auxiliary gauges were added under the dash to keep a slightly more accurate view of the engines vitals, and theres an upgraded AM/FM/cassette stereo in the dash with a satellite radio unit underneath. The car also features ice cold A/C, GSX-logo floor mats, and a correct factory 3-spoke steering wheel-like I said, this car is quite accurate in all the ways that matter. We believe thats the original headliner, and it remains in very good condition and suggests the car has always lived a good life. The trunk is also correctly outfitted with spatter-finish paint, a reproduction mat, factory jack assembly, and a full-sized spare with matching cover. The engine is a 1970 455 cubic inch V8 with SF coding, meaning 370 horsepower and a towering 510 lb-ft. of torque. It was rebuilt to Stage 1 specifications so it really cackles at idle and pulls like a freight train out on the road. Seriously, if you havent felt the torque of one of these big Buicks, youre in for a real treat. Its also correctly detailed in Dante Red engine enamel with chrome valve covers and a proper GS air cleaner with ram air induction. Both power steering and power brakes are included, and you could get A/C on your GSX, something that wasnt on the menu with its lesser cousins. Theres a massive aluminum radiator up front, but thats the only component that isnt accurate but we dont think anyone will mind having the extra capacity-this is a car built to drive, after all. It starts easily and idles with a bit of a lope thanks to the upgraded Stage 1 camshaft, and even today this is a seriously quick car. The 4-speed appears to be original to the car and is a big part of why this GSX tribute is so entertaining to drive. With 3.55 gears out back, its quite user-friendly and makes the most of all that big block torque. The floors were painted Saturn Yellow to match the bodywork, and that makes for an awesome background for the hardware, including a recent exhaust system and gas tank, and theres a Posi limited slip unit inside that bulletproof 12-bolt rear end. Boxed control arms are correct for the GS and GSX and the soundtrack is aggressive yet mellow enough for regular driving-this car never gets annoying. Beautiful Buick Road Wheels are the right choice and carry fat 235/70/15 BFGoodrich T/A radials all around.Documentation includes restoration photos, an inch-thick folder of restoration receipts, and a show board. The whole point of a tribute car is to be able to drive a legend without the risk, and this stunning Buick definitely delivers an authentic experience. Its docile like a Buick should be, but ferocious when you want it to be, and always comfortable thanks to a long list of options. A pedigreed GS Stage 1 or GSX will cost you tens of thousands of dollars more than this awesome tribute and nobody will ever be able to spot the deception. Sounds like a win-win to us.
