Classic Car Overview
1970 AMC REBEL MACHINE
(including rare and $$$ extras)
Condition: VG+ - EX
It's a hardtop (HT)
No Trades
I'm selling my Rebel Machine after 14 years. It starts and runs nicely. I replaced the master cylinder and changed the oil this October and I just replaced the battery in November.
It is mostly original (AMC original), and the important missing original parts were painstakingly found and are included. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
It's a really nice rare ride (only 1k in R/W/B and under 3k overall) that everyone loves once they see it. Every local car show that I took it to it won a trophy.
Specifications:
390 V-8 (340hp/430fp torque)
Heavy Duty Engine Cooling System.
Power Steering
Hurst 4-speed shifter
Close ratio 4 speed T-10 Borg Warner transmission
AMC model 20 Twin-Grip limited-slip differential
Grip ratio: 3:54:1 (that is the stock ratio, but I couldn't find the stamp)
15 Kelsey-Hayes wheels (original Machine specific wheels)
R/W/B (repainted)
25A Frost White (P-72) Electric Blue (B-6) Red Streak Graphic Kit (a new one is included)
Functional Ram-Air Hood Scoop with Vacuum-Actuated Flapper Valve (original and included)
Hood Scoop Mounted
Tachometer (lighted, 0-8,000 rpm) (Not working likely due to the wiring, but I'm not positive. Please see photos)
Dual-Exhaust System (special low back pressure mufflers and larger exhaust pipes)
Brakes:
Front: 11.14 caliper 4 piston disc
Rear: 10 drum
Suspension:
Front: Independent upper A-arm/lower control arm with twin ball joints, shocks
Rear: Four-link trailing arms, coil springs, shocks
Handling Package (H-D springs & shocks, plus H-D wagon rear springs)
Rear Sway Bar
Includes Space Saver Spare Tire (on regular 14 Orange-painted wheel) and bottle inflator (original)
AM Radio (disconnected w/ rear speaker mounts)
OEM items included for an original restoration:
Exhaust manifolds: (I consider them actually rare. It took me 5 years to locate a pair and these are sandblasted) $$$$
Intake manifold: (almost as rare and really heavy) $$$
2ea. Motorcraft Autolite 4300 4 barrel carburetors with extra parts (I was told it's enough to build one OEM Autolite 4300) $
RIMBLOW steering wheel
(beautifully restored by Rimblow Buddies $1,500+) The current steering wheel is from a 1971 AMX (it looks cool too)
Red Stripe kit from AMC OEM dies (John Newell kit $1k+)
OEM lighter and dash panel
(Oil pressure and vacuum gauges are there now)
Other extras:
Edelbrock R4B Intake Manifold
(lightweight and higher performance)
Edelbrock chrome valve covers
Chilton repair manual book
Parts list on CD
Rebel Machine signs x2
AMC Keychain
And probably a few more items as I find them in my garage.
Issues with this Rebel Machine:
Parking brake is not operating. It works inside the car, but it's not connected under the car.
A previous owner installed an oil pressure and vacuum gauges and disconnected the radio and I don't know what else.
Engine temp gauge on dash isn't working.
Clock isn't working
AM Radio isn't working
Door lock on driver's side doesn't lock from the inside. It will lock with the key.
