VW Kombi Van Seeing Resurgence in Popularity

The Volkswagen Kombi van reached iconic status, with even a school lunch box fashioned in its image. During those early years, the Volkswagen Microbus morphed into various forms. Classic Car Overview

We have just received this unique 1969 Triumph Herald 13/60 on consignment. The seller is from a well-known family with a large portfolio in commercial real estate.

Unfortunately, the seller is now unable to drive due to health issues and is looking for a serious enthusiast to take care of Harriet (from here on, this car will be referred to as Harriet).

Harriet is extremely sentimental to the seller and was bequeathed to him after his fathers passing. The father was the original owner and took delivery of Harriet on the island of Nassau in the Bahamas.

The seller and his family would frequent the island of Nassau for as long as he could remember.

During the sellers early teenage years, the father announced Harriet like a new sibling was being born. With the mothers burst of laughter and fathers smirk, everyone knew this was one of the fathers bad jokes.

However, Harriet really was on the way.

The father had ordered Harriet from the Triumph factory in Coventry, England.

In January of 1969, Harriet was loaded onto Thessaly, a vessel located at the Royal Victoria Dock in London.

Harriet arrived in Nassau late February of 1969.

One early morning, on the familys way to breakfast, the father revealed Harriet for the first time. The seller and his sister were immediately infatuated with Harriet and almost always accompanied their father for drives around the island from then on.

Harriet remained on the island for the next twenty-eight years and was always stored in the fathers garage when not driven.

Unfortunately, the father passed away in 1999, but Harriet was bequeathed by the current sellers sister. The family wanted to preserve this car in their fathers memory.

As a team, the current seller and his sister got Harriet over to their family property in Colorado. In 2004, restoration began and was not completed until late 2011.

There are several photos, receipts, and catalogs from the restoration process. Some photos include the frame-off restoration and engine rebuilding phases.
Along with this, there are left-over spare parts and even sample upholstery materials from England.
After the full restoration was complete, the seller and his sister began taking Harriet to car shows. Harriet outshined the competition and won award after award.

In 2016, the sellers sister suffered a severe injury debilitating her from driving Harriet ever again.

Harriets ownership was transferred to our current seller and he proceeded to keep Harriet under a car cover in his climate-controlled garage.

The seller rarely took Harriet out after his sister's injury, but he would sit in the garage often to reminisce and start Harriet up.

Harriet now sits covered in our showroom.

Harriets paint is Triumph Wedgewood Blue (factory color code 26). The bumper guards are white and the rest of the trim is chrome. All of the above is in superb condition.

The top is tan and does not have rips, tears, or stains. There are no issues and it operates as it should.

Harriets interior is tan as well (Biscuit) and has a woodgrain dash panel.

The instrument gauges are clear and do not have any haze or grime.

The seats do not have any rips, cracks, or stains and are very comfortable.
Harriet does not have any odors either and most certainly has never been smoked in.

In the trunk is the same tan carpeting as the interior and is odor, stain, and rip free. Under the carpet is the spare along with sound deadening material. There is also a bag with a jack and some tools.
Overview of my opinions:

drives superbly ~ this car starts right up with no issues or need to play with the gas peddle and cruises down the road great
smooth power ~ the inline 4 does not have any misfiring or hesitation at all and no weird noises
superb suspension ~ this car rides over rough asphalt with ease and there are no clunks or bangs
fantastic interior ~ there are no cracks on the dash, the seats are plush and comfortable with no rips or stains, and all the gauges are clear
zero funky odors ~ there are no odors at all from the engine or interior and 100% not a smoker car
