Classic Car Overview
1969 Pontiac Lemans HO Hardtop For consignment, a 1969 Pontiac Lemans HO hardtop with a title verified 48,959 actual miles, another forgotten muscle car and according to our consignor, only 2,800 HOs were built in 1969, all fitted with a 350ci 4-barrel V8. Our car has a matching numbers transmission and date correct 350. Exterior Repainted about ten years ago to its original color, Cameo White is presented in two stage form on an otherwise unrestored car. Pontiacs distinctive nose, seen across the line in 69, is lined with robust chrome which becomes part of the bumper that encircles the grille, and that grille bends to protrude with the nose. A black body stripe bordered with red follows the lines of the front fender, rides the door, then flips up with the rising shoulder of the rear window and side emblems also dress the profile with the coveted High Output spelled out in back with black and red decals. The black vinyl top is in very nice shape and the hood tach, only otherwise seen on the GTO in 69, provides a hint of what lurks below. 15-inch Pontiac Rally II wheels where PMD center caps and red faced lug nuts work well with the redline tires. The otherwise pedestrian rear of the car is enhanced with some substantial dual exhaust tips and overall, the exterior is in fine condition with no glaring imperfections. Interior Also retaining its original interior and color, Parchment vinyl is artfully arranged on the door panel with trim lines that create geometric patterns around the hardware and model plate. Similar things happen on the front bucket seats with the use of stitch pattern under a broad headrest, all in very nice condition along with the rear bench with seatbelts for three and ashtrays for the end occupants. The cockpit begins with a simple steering wheel, black textured plastic with horn buttons on each of the three spokes, leading to a triple gauge instrument cluster up front that includes the speedometer and a clock. Woodgrain film covers the lower dash where the AM radio is housed just above a dual pod for oil and water, and the center console brings some more woodgrain and is home to the shifter and it all is in great shape. Black loop carpet is protected by Pontiac branded rubber mats while a Parchment perforated headliner presents in fine condition, complete with shoulder harnesses clipped in. One visor is signed by Linda Vaughn, Miss Hurst, for some period authenticity. The trunk is clean and contains a spare. Drivetrain This is where the magic is, a date correct 350ci V8 is under the hood in its Pontiac blue glory, with chrome valve covers and 330 horsepower on tap, thanks in part to the 4-barrel carburetor riding shotgun on the intake. Behind it, a matching numbers TH400 3-speed automatic transmission sending power to the 10 bolt axle with 3.55 gears and Safe-T-Track. Power brakes are onboard to slow the horses with discs in front and drums in the rear. The bay is clean and show worthy. Undercarriage A clean underside is a welcome sight with very little surface rust and only a drop or two of fluid near the oil and transmission pans. The rocker panels and door undersides are free of rust and the second half of the dual exhaust with stock style mufflers still glistens as surface rust covers the early leg and polished tips cap off an intact system. Coil springs occupy the front for suspension and a 4 link with coil springs is utilized is the back. Drive-Ability The vinyl seats, not known for their stickiness, are comfortable at least and the simplicity of the interior is more welcoming each year as electronics dominate the interiors of todays cars. The 350 roars to life as we fixate on the tach ahead of us, then focus on the road ahead and task at hand. Notable acceleration, straight tracking, and decent handling greet us around the loop and all functions work as intended with the exception of the radio and the reverse lights. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. If theres one thing we love at Classic Auto Mall, its muscle cars. But even more, the more obscure, low production muscle cars that didnt receive the fanfare of the GTO and others. Its a virtual sleeper, both in history and on the road and youll need a show sign to explain exactly what people are looking at. POCI members take note, this is a fine example of an H.O., show or display ready, a sport coupe turned factory street machine for the fortunate few thousand who checked the right boxes at order time. Your order is up, and now being served at Classic Auto Mall.
