Pontiac was long considered the “sportier” brand in the General Motors lineup. This was especially true in the 1960s when automotive legend John Z. DeLorean was at the helm of the company, and they were turning out many of GM’s most exciting cars. So when Chevrolet debuted the Camaro in 1966 as a 1967 model, Pontiac was just behind with its variant - the Firebird - which came out a few months later. This 1969 Firebird 350 Convertible is a stunning RestoMod variant of that legendary nameplate, and has been carefully constructed over the years for both optimal performance, and outstanding looks.
 
The first thing you notice when you walk up to this Firebird is the outstanding paint around the car. Completed by Blue Sky Auto Body LLC in Tacoma, WA, this car was refinished in Pointac Windward Blue Poly, and then 9 coats of clear were sprayed on top to give it a glass-like appearance. To give the car a bit more of a unique look, a set of 5-spoke billet wheels were added, along with a rear decklid spoiler The convertible top was also replaced with a high quality white vinyl replacement which provides a wonderful contrast when it’s raised.
 
Although the interior looks almost completely original - it is hiding some very desirable upgrades beneath the surface. All of the seats have been recovered in black vinyl by Auto Specialty Inc. in Tacoma, WA, and Katzen seat heaters have been installed in both front buckets. The radio was converted from the original analog unit to digital by 8 Track Repair in Prescott Valley, AZ, with an Aurora Design AM/FM/Bluetooth/ACC Adapter, which is paired to a 140W dual voice coil dash mounted speaker.
 
Sitting under the hood is a 350ci V8 that is rated at 425 horsepower and built by Gibson Motorworks of Puyallup, WA. This engine features high-quality performance parts such as a Quick Fuel Slayer 750CFM 4bbl carburetor, Spectre Performance aluminum intake, Proform electronic ignition, aluminum radiator and 2.5-inch aluminum exhaust. These all make for a reliable, yet very exciting to drive classic that has the exact sound that you want from a pony car. Backing up this engine is a 700r4 automatic gearbox with an overdrive, which is paired to a 9-inch Ford rear end with posi-traction and 3.55 gears. The suspension was also set up by Gibson Motorworks and included Heidts coil-overs with tubular A-arms as well as Wilwood disc brakes with 14-inch rotors up front and 12-inch units in the rear. A power assisted rack and pinion steering system built by Steeroids was also installed to make this car ultra usable.
 
There is nothing like a V8 convertible in the summertime, and this Firebird is an exceptional example of the breed. Providing performance, looks and fun, this car will always draw attention at your local cruise night, and needs absolutely nothing for you to just get in and start driving. When a car is done as well as this, why go through the hassle of doing it yourself?
