Classic Car Overview

1969 Plymouth Road Runner The Road Runner was introduced in 1968 and produced through 1980. As the 60s came to an end a lot of muscle cars were moving away from their roots as they gained new features and became more expensive. Plymouth released the Road Runner in an effort to keep the muscle car era alive by going back to the basics and focusing on performance. To use the name, likeness and beep beep sound from the popular Wile E. Coyote cartoon, Plymouth gave Warner Bros $50,000 and also went on to spend $10,000 more developing a special horn. The first generation was from 1968 to 1970. They expected to sell 20,000 units in 68 but clearly underestimated things as the production went up to 45,000. It was clear the market responded well and the Road Runner rose to the 3rd highest selling muscle car. In 1969 they kept that same original look with slight changes to the taillights and grill. This very cool 1969 Road Runner had a professionally done frame on restoration by Wonder Lake Rod and Customs. It belonged to a private Mopar collection at the time and was done in a restomod style. The idea was to retain a mostly stock look but have a more modern drivetrain with modern performance. The body is extremely straight and is all rust free. It is painted in Sunfire Yellow which has a very nice shine. All of the original chrome bumpers have an excellent shine as does the window trim, light trim and the unique 1969 grill. It has all of its original style Road Runner badging and logos cleanly in place. The glass is slightly tinted and free from any damage or issues. The car sits on a set of nice 15 inch Magnum 500 wheels with Mickey Thompson Street S/S tires. The only thing indicating the car is not stock is the scooped hood which looks great. Pop that hood and that is where the fun really begins. This thing is now powered by Mopar Performance 500 Wedge 500+ hp crate motor that runs great. It has been fitted with lots of chrome/billet components, an MSD ignition system, Holly Sniper EFI carburetor and very cool Black finned Mopar Performance valve covers and air cleaner. Keeping it running cool is the aluminum Be Cool radiator with dual electric fans. The car sounds great through ceramic coated headers into H-pipe dual exhaust. Mated to the transmission is a Tremec 5 speed transmission that sends power back to the Dana 60 rear end. During the build the brakes (disc front) were all gone through and it also has all new suspension components. It has power steering as well making it a smooth driving classic to cruise around in. Then when its time to show off you can put your foot into it and this car performs. The interior is complete with nice Tan upholstery that is in great condition. It has factory bucket seats with lap belts and they show zero sign of wear. It has a factory floor shifter that moves through the gears smoothly and mounted next to it are controls for the EFI carb. The dash is all upholstered and painted to match the rest and
