Classic Car Overview

Theres just something great about the 1969 Oldsmobile Cutlass S convertible. They have one of the best designs of the era from a GM division that provided both speed and luxury. With a strong Rocket 350 V8, a smooth shifting automatic, and a beautiful turquoise-on-white color combination, the only thing surprising on this dialed-in droptop is the reasonable price tag. Code 55 Tahitian Turquoise paint, a white convertible top, and bright parchment guts: it doesnt get much better than this. This look at me hue highlights the sophistication of the 60s era Olds that goes beyond horsepower. The blend of performance and luxury that Oldsmobile offered is embodied in this Cutlass ragtop. The body is sporty, with dramatic curves, flared fenders, and a handsome front end that was instantly recognizable as being from the rocket division. Its not aggressive or over-blown, but rather has a look that the factory would approve of. This is an upscale muscle car with a solid, but not perfect, paint job that looks fantastic when this convertible is bombing down the road. It doesnt indulge in any wild stripes or fake 442 badges, which on this car just adds to the chic, uniform appearance that make this convertible so special. But what really makes this Cutty so attractive is everything fits together exactly the way the factory assembled it more than four decades ago. Even the chrome is still decently bright, although a small investment in this department would really spruce things up a bit and provide a wonderful contrast up against the light finish. All-in-all, this is a very handsome muscle car that proudly shows off its softer side. Choosing a Parchment interior with the turquoise paint was the right decision when this car was ordered in 1969 from the factory, and were very happy that the former owners elected to keep that factory-correct color combination when the car was restored. The front and rear buckets are very comfortable, and other than needing a thorough cleaning, theyre in great condition and match the top portion of the door panels perfectly. The bottom portion of those door panels match the original crack-free dash top, and the plush black carpets tie the whole cabin together very nicely. Oldsmobiles were historically about offering luxurious extras, and this one carries that tradition perfectly. Youll feel it from the moment you step inside, from the grippy factory-style steering wheel and the tilt wheel that it rests atop, to the power windows that are an absolute must on a sunshine-chasing convertible. The factory options dont stop there though power brakes, power steering, and a power folding roof are all part of the package too. The triple-pod gauge set-up in front of the driver was an Olds staple for many years, and the instruments are nice and clear, and even though its rare to find the original AM/FM radio still in the dash of this Cutty, its going to need to be supplemented by a modern unit if youre planning on cranking some tunes while you cruise. The white power top is fully functional and could use a good detail just like interior to kick it up a notch, and the spacious trunk out back provides enough room to accommodate for most travel plans. Oldsmobile people know that a Rocket 350 cubic inch motor is something very special, and this well-maintained unit is no exception. Olds manufactured their own V8 engines during this era, and they shared no major components with the Chevy version. With higher nickel content in the iron block, the motor has proven to be virtually indestructible out in the real world and will continue to be so with proper maintenance. Thanks to stock exhaust headers that feed a chambered muffler below, it has a distinctive sound all its own, a sophisticated rumble thats perfect for this ragtops luxury/muscle dual nature. The engine is nicely presented with a black snorkeled air cleaner replete with proper decals, gold valve covers, and a stock-spec carburetor that snaps the block into immediate attention. Power steering and power brakes make driving this droptop an absolute delight, and with a smooth-shifting TH350 3-speed automatic transmission handling the power, you can drop the shifter into park, put your right arm on the top of the bench seat, and cruise in style. Because as much as you might want to take this Cutlass to a car show, it has all the right features for an all-day Sunday drive as well. The look is finished off perfectly with a set of Rally II wheels wrapped in 215/70/14 white-letter radials. This is the convertible that fits in everywhere and has the right features to be comfortably driven anywhere. It only gets better when you look at the competitive price. Call now!!
