Engine: Lotus-Ford Twin Cam Inline 4 with Dual SU Carburetors
History: Lotus began production of the Elan in 1962 and very quickly cemented its spot as the benchmark sports car, with a lightweight balanced chassis, independent suspension, and a robust Twin Cam inline 4. Under 2,000 Series 4 Elans were built in 1969, this one originally delivered to British Motor Car Distributer in Los Angeles and now finished in black and gold as a John Player Special livery tribute.
Condition: Detailed records show maintenance and service dating back to 2013 and a complete engine overhaul in 2016 by Omnitech Engineering, including a refurbishment of the block and entirely new engine components, crankshaft, rods, pistons, cams, valves, and cylinder head porting. More recently, comprehensive maintenance totaling over $12,000 was done between 20222025 by Bill Schlossnagel of El Cajon, CA. Excellent driving condition, strong brakes, compliant suspension, and new tires in 2024. The removable black soft top is included and fits over the roll bar. There are service receipts, photos, and documentation as well.
Of Note: The Lotus Elan epitomizes the work of Colin Chapman and the timeless model of the lightweight road car. The Elan has received growing praise through the years, and notably Gordan Murry chasing the Elans steering feel in the development of the Mclaren F1.
Spares: Removable soft top, original steering wheel, cloth car cover, floor mats, side mirror, spark plugs, air cleaner assembly, wiper blades, fuel pump, and a set of spare keys.
