Given that the 21st century has seen a sort of return to the roots aspect for the Mustang, it was probably only a matter of time before the Boss 302 made a return. Over the last few years there's been steady and growing interest in the concept of a new-age Trans Am Special.
Jim Clarke led the charge with the creation of the 5.0 HO V8 for the Mustang in 1982 and was responsible for the continuous improvement of the 5.0 throughout the '80s. What Jim and his team accomplished is truly amazing.
Classic Car Overview
High end custom build by a highly acclaimed shop in Oklahoma- Hot Rod Shop. They have many significant awards under their belt. Only 3,285 careful miles since finished. Its a high end show car that was made to be driven. EXTERIOR: Many unique custom features. The most obvious is the Shelby ram air hood with pins. The fenders were extended to the hood length with no visible seams. The body was cleaned up by filling in the marker lights, moldings, Mustang emblems and door handles. Doors open by remote. The scoops and rear 1/4 extensions were molded in smooth. The tail was cleaned up by removing emblems, gas cap and trunk lock. Trunk opens by remote. A custom made pop up gas cap was counter sunk into the drivers 1/4 panel. It also has front and rear spoilers, sleak sport mirrors and the stainless trim has a brushed look. All new glass, sides and rear are dark smoked. The body work is outstanding, laser straight and no signs of failure. The 2 tone paint combination is outstanding- Electric Currant Red and Leisure Travel Silver. We have the formulas for both colors. Of course it was laid out and polished to a glass finish. The 2 tone is broken up with a thin pinstripe. The jambs are 2 toned and slick. New weatherstrips. It is further enhanced with 18 inch Boyd Coddington wheels and performance tires, they are fatter in back That and the lowered stance make this car sexy. INTERIOR: Inside this car was completely custom fabricated from carpet to headliner. There is nothing Ford about it. Done by well known Cars Upholstery, thousands of dollars were spent. A completely fabricated dash was created giving that high end modern look. Has carbon fiber gauges, aluminum vents and a center pod for the ignition, climate and light controls. Theres a tilt column, the steering wheel has color matched grip and aluminum spokes. The reclining bucket seats are upholstered in ultra leather. Actually all the upholstery throughout is soft ultra leather. The headliner is custom molded and covered in suede. In between is a custom console and shifter. The e-brake handle was relocated inside the console and uses a chrome handle. Custom made door panels have neatly installed speakers and aluminum handles. Rear filler panels were made in place of a rear seat and upholstered. If you notice, the pattern follows throughout the interior with oval designs embossed. The pedals, interior lights, speakers, vents and even the mirrors are oval. Premium carpet was hand cut and sewn. Has plush Shelby floormats. ENGINE COMPARTMENT: It certainly has a wow factor when you open the hood. Tastefully decorated in polished parts. The firewall and inner fenders were filled and smoothed. A filler panel was made in front of the radiator. The 2 tone paint scheme was used throughout. The 351 engine was completely rebuilt with mild performance upgrades. Has Edelbrock intake, big Holley carb, MSD ignition and K&N air filter. The motor was also color keyed to the body. A great looking set of polished valve covers were also detailed with the body color. There are chromed pulleys, alternator, steering pump and more. Has Vintage Air system with heat and a/c, the compressor is polished. It has power steering and power brakes. The aluminum radiator has custom shroud and overflow bottle. There are custom chrome tubular support bars. The motor runs flawlessly and sounds great. TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Completely boxed and carpeted. Hidden behind the main panel are the stereo components including CD changer and amp. The stereo is operated by remote from inside the car. The right hand panel hides the battery which has a cut off switch and a wired battery tender. There are also remote battery terminals under the car. UNDERSIDE: Completely restored, not over restored. Its a show car you can drive. The metal is all clean, no rust or issues. Reinforced with welded frame connectors for less flex and better handling. In front the suspension and steering is completely replaced with new. Has sway bar. Bottom of motor is still clean, has high torque starter. It has a Tremec 5-speed trans. That 5th gear is great on the highway. In back it has a 9 inch rear, tubular control arms and gas shocks. Has great sounding Borla exhaust with custom tips. There are disc brakes at all four corners, e-brake is hooked up. The closer I looked at this car the more I appreciated the workmanship that went into it. Its a classy, modern custom that is obviously high end. Yet it is very sleak and muscular. This is if you want to rise above the others and be with the best of the beat class!
