Given that the 21st century has seen a sort of return to the roots aspect for the Mustang, it was probably only a matter of time before the Boss 302 made a return. Over the last few years there’s been steady and growing interest in the concept of a new-age Trans Am Special.
Jim Clarke led the charge with the creation of the 5.0 HO V8 for the Mustang in 1982 and was responsible for the continuous improvement of the 5.0 throughout the ’80s. What Jim and his team accomplished is truly amazing.

Classic Car Overview
1969 Ford Mustang $149,900
Restored by Thornton Muscle Cars with great attention to detail. Every nut, bolt and screw was taken out and the car was placed on a rotisserie. This Mach 1 is powered by a Boss 429 upgraded by Jon Kaase to a custom-built 520ci Boss Nine engine with a Tremec 6-speed manual transmission. The engine has Inglese electronic fuel-injection stacks, a FAST EFI box, hydraulic rollers and Billet Specialties Tru Trac serpentine system and is cooled by a made-to-fit radiator. The headers and 3" exhaust were custom-made to the contour of this car. The engine was dynoed at 757hp and 724 ft/lbs of torque on pump gas. This Mustang rides on a custom-built 2x3 full frame with Total Control front suspension, Total Control Products rear push-rod suspension on a Fab 9" rear with a 3.50 ratio, and is stopped by Wilwood 14" drilled and slotted disc brakes. The Mustang also has LED headlights and taillights. It is finished in House of Kolor Kandy Apple Red with a Mach 1 Brandywine stripe. The steel hood has custom-designed metal scoop. The deluxe interior is complemented with carbon-fiber Auto Meter gauges and Vintage Air. The build was completed in 2014. Best of Show winner.
