Exterior
Monaco Orange was a new color to the Corvette palette and it turned out to be a popular one for the times and it suits the curvaceous lines of our 69 well. Perhaps the greatest attribute of the orange is its ability to serve as a base for dramatic contrasts such as what we see in the fender gills, the black top, and of course, the tires themselves. The thinly finned turbine wheels resemble wire wheels from afar and are iconically linked with the early C3s. The vented and flat decklid smoothly transitions to a subtle spoiler and the flat rear fascia presents sports car muscularity that is truly legendary. A tight and tear free black canvas soft top resides under the rear hatch cover and presents with a slightly yellowed plastic rear window. Overall, the body is in nice shape, but our intrepid photographer finds imperfections that include dozens of random chips and scratches throughout, long chips or missing paint on panel edges and both front and rear spoiler, curb rash, crazing on the rear fascia.

Interior
Our orange Vette has black guts, beginning on the robust door panels which present very nicely and lead to clean vinyl bucket seats that definitely look refreshed. The black steering wheel is on a black column that tracks down to the black plastic surround of the gauges under a black dash pad. Get the theme here? The center stack houses five gauges, including a clock, and an AM/FM radio followed by a row of lights indicating left and right lamps, then vent controls that include thumb wheels, the precursor to todays touch screens? Finally, we have the shifter and the informational fact filled face plate reminding you of your horsepower and displacement. The black carpet below it all is very nice and tracks back to the rear cargo area behind the seats.

Drivetrain
The numbers matching 427 L36 V8 is dressed in chrome and ready to go! It puts out 390 horsepower and is fueled via a 4-barrel carburetor. Its mated to a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the rear axle with heavy duty 3.08 gears and Positraction. Power steering is noted and the bay presents cleanly.

Undercarriage
We have driver quality conditions underneath with some typical oxidation, surface rust, and some gunk build up on the knuckles. For components, we have dual exhaust running through stock style mufflers and exiting through two chrome tips out back. Four wheel disc brakes are on board and fully independent suspension with frame anchored differential unit and transverse leaf springs help keep the rear planted.

Drive-Ability
The first thing we notice when taking a seat is that spectacular hood, its vented and bulging proportions. We pilot this American legend to the test loop. The car provides good power and a nice exhaust note while tracking straight and turning with ease. We note the clock does not work but all other functional items on the car work as they should and we roll this orange dream back to the mall. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
