Exterior Our car pays tribute to the Dover White that covered real Yenkos, one of the eight colors found on these special Chevelles. Of course, no Yenko would be complete without the stripe package which begins with two wide bands that terminate with an arrow on the hood and the acronym for Super Yenko Car, and continuing on the triple side stripe, ever widening, and finishing on the rear quarter with the famous name, finally flipping north towards the sky. In back, the latch panel contains two more field marks, the Yenko badge coupled with the 427 marker, flanked by tail lights and exhaust tips that drip with muscular attraction. A black vinyl tops the car and is in good shape while 15-inch Chevrolet Rally wheels hold staggered size tires. Imperfections include some patching and touch ups at the base of the window, edge wear on a door, bubbling on the door skin and numerous other areas, and uneven body work in the door jamb and other areas. Interior Multi pleated black vinyl door panels with silver trim pieces are in good shape and lead us to the black bucket seats. Both wear SYC on the headrests and the drivers lower shows some patina with curving piping trim and some compression on the back. The rear bench appears fresh and clean. A tilt steering column holds a 3 spoke wood steering wheel, leading to a standard instrument cluster augmented by a tachometer mounted just under the gas gauge. Our attention is drawn to the somewhat lumpy dash pad above until we check out the climate panel and AM/FM/Cassette radio just below it followed by a twin gauge package for oil pressure and water temp added below the dash. A horseshoe shifter rides the center column above some faux burlwood trim and low pile black loop carpet covers the floor nicely. The headliner is superb and is home to the clipped-on shoulder harnesses, provided in the days before three-point seatbelts. Our trunk is clean with covered spare taking up some real estate. Drivetrain Under the hood, a Yenko badged 427ci V8 which our consignor states has about 5,600 miles on the build is stated to have mild cam, roller rockers and MSD ignition. An Edelbrock 750cfm 4-barrel carburetor is perched on a Weiand intake manifold, all topped with a chrome air filter cover to match the big valve covers. The rebuilt TH400 transmission is warrantied until November 2025 and includes a heavy duty B&M shift kit, high gear clutch drum, and 2500rpm stall converter. In back is a 12 bolt with 4.10 gears and Positraction. Newer brakes augment the power discs in front and power drums in the back. Undercarriage The cleanliness begins with a new gas tank with new float inside and straps on the outside, mounted just behind the chrome differential cover. The rest of the underside is clean two with just a couple of drops of oil on the pan. Dual exhaust hit an H-pipe before a pair of FlowMaster mufflers, then exit via oval chrome tips out back. Coil spring suspension is up front with the standard 4 link with coil springs in back. Drive-Ability You dont have to close your eyes and imagine youre in a real Yenko, this one gives off authentic vibes with that double stripe and arrow leading the way. The 427 fires up with a substantial roar and we pull the horseshoe into drive and the Chevelle eagerly hits the test loop, providing good power and acceleration along with straight tracking, excellent braking, and admirable handling. No issues or surprises here, the big engine is the star of the show. Meanwhile, all functions operate as intended.
