1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 For consignment, a blast, (literally) from the past in the form of the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro. This one is special due to it having the elusive X33 code. Save for the engine stamping date and suffix code being machined off and a partial VIN stamped in the alternate location and a date correct transmission has been installed, all is still correct for this 1969 Z28 Camaro. Our consignor states a mere 565 miles have been clocked since a restoration and this car comes with its Protect-O-Plate, a certificate of authenticity from Camaro Hi-Performance Inc. and Jerry MacNeish, the window sticker, pre delivery checklist, and a NCRS shipper data report. You are about to delve into one of the finest examples of the fabled 1969 Z28 that has ever graced our Hallowed Halls of Classic Auto Mall. Exterior Garnet Red covers the straight steel slabs on this car, which are all minding their gaps very well and its really nicely buffed and has a glass like presentation with only a few minor faults upon close inspection. Also adorning the exterior are dual wide black painted on racing stripes, which.... well, race up the long hood of this pony car stopping at the front windscreen, and continue on the small rear deck and cool spoiler atop. No rust and a spiffy black vinyl top is on. All this steel frames 15-inch deep dish rally style wheels all wrapped up in 215/65R15 rubber, (from the 15th week of 2018), on all 4 corners. All chrome on bumpers, brite-work, and correct badging is excellent and mirror-like, it just doesnt get any better than this! Interior A swing of the doors and we can see well preserved black embossed vinyl door panels, and seats in the form of sleek high back headrest buckets in front, and a 2 plus 2 rear bench. Racing up the center is a pristine center console which houses the Hurst shifter, and a bevy of 4 white faced gauges in it just below the dash. Some wood grained appliqu frames the shifter, and is also used on the various portions of the dash and glovebox. Speaking of the dash, all original and fairly clean, and fronted by a wood appliqu center rimmed steering wheel. The dash is raked inward as it glides towards the floor and has the rally gauge package within its confines. New black carpet, and nicely preserved tight black headliner are all presenting as showroom. Also a shout out to the trunk too as it sports a new checkered tweed vinyl liner, and has correct spare and jack setup. Power steering and power brakes are noted as well as the correct push button AM radio are all installed on this X33 car. Drivetrain Under the reverse scooped hood residing within a pristine engine bay is a date correct, (B189), casting date and 3956618 casting number 302ci V8. Unfortunately the stamping pad has been machined down during the engine rebuilt, however a partial VIN stamping is present on the alternate stamping location, just above the oil filter housing. It has a correct Holley List# 3923289DZ 4-barrel carburetor, however the carb does carry a later assembly stamping date of 943, and a correct Z28 intake manifold, casting number 3932472. A date correct but not original, (P9B12B, February 12th 1969), Muncie M21 4-speed manual transmission is on back, and this pushes power to a 12 bolt rear with 3.73 posi gears. This rear axle carries the correct casting number 3894860NF, correct casting date, B129, and correct stamping codes, BU0225G. Rust free exhaust manifolds from the factory flow out of a beautifully restored Chevrolet Orange painted block, snazzy cast aluminum ribbed valve covers, and a correct air black cleaner housing. All hoses are nice and supple, and everything else is gleaming and screaming for attention under this hood. No rust or corrosion or even a speck of dirt! Undercarriage Alls well underneath which has been completely restored, and while in process had all floor pans blasted and painted, and they are looking good! A sturdy unibody and a dual chambered rust free like new exhaust snakes by all buttoned up independent coil spring suspension on front and new leaf springs on the rear. Drum brakes are on back and discs upfront, and are power assisted. Drive-Ability This fine muscle X33 code example fired right up, ran very nicely and handled all the challenges of our test track and critical eye for anything not working. We found the wiper transmission needs adjusted, and the power steering pulley is a bit wobbly when viewed while the engine is running. All else was a pleasurable muscle car experience right out of 1969 Peabody. A beautiful restoration indeed, all around nice X33 code Camaro with plenty of attention to detail during the restoration, and all the paperwork required to keep even the pickiest Camaro aficionado sated.
