Classic Car Overview

The 1969 Model year GTV has always been a top favorite among Alfisti due to its lively 1750cc motor which is very rev happy combined with the Spica fuel injection and for its exterior design with the small tail lamps and simple mesh front grill. The interior was also favored over other year Coupes in that it had the coolest seats with flying buttress bolsters as well as a gorgeous dash design with the two prominent speedo and tach dials in front of the driver combined with a beautiful sloping console with aux gauges and the traditional shifter protruding out of the center at a 45 degree angle. The GTV 1750 had many remarkable features for the era such as dual servo 4-wheel disk brakes, a 5-speed fully synchromesh gearbox, limited slip rear diff, twin cam all aluminum motor and aluminum transmission case. Today these Bertone designed coupes remain a must have for any Alfa Romeo collector.

Authentic Motorcars acquired serial number 1530312 in November of 2022 from the window of its former owner, David Sherman, a long time Alfa Romeo club member and Italian car enthusiast. Mr. Sherman purchased the GTV in April of 1985 with the ODO showing 003500 miles (103,500 miles in total). According to the Alfa Romeo Classiche Certificato Di Origine, this GTV was delivered in March of 1969 to the North American dealer network headquarters in Newark, NJ. There are 2 previous documented owners of the car both from Seattle WA. A Joan McCauley owned the car until 1978 when it was sold to a Nolan Scott at 99,675 miles. When Mr. Sherman purchased the car it was in a non-running state and he would spend the next 9 months of 1985 getting the car road worthy again. Over the years Mr. Sherman maintained the car and would perform many mechanical repairs and upgrades during his ownership until the car was parked in January of 2022 with 029,973 miles displayed on the ODO (129,973 miles in total). These included rebuilding the engine, fuel injection, replacing clutch, refreshing the gearbox, rebuilding brake boosters, and renewing the suspension. Mr. Sherman kept a detailed log book showing all services and repairs performed during his ownership. In November of 1985, the car was repainted red like so many Alfas in the 80s. After the acquisition of the car from the Sherman estate it was decided that a restoration was deserving of this special GTV and over the next year and a half we would bring the car back to a show/driver level condition. Vintage Racing Motors was contracted to handle the mechanical reconditioning needed to get the car road ready. A new fuel tank was fitted, new hoses, all fluids were changed, ignition components renewed, the hydraulics were addressed and the Spica thermostatic actuator was sent to Wes Ingram for rebuild. Bodywork was handled by Frost Finishes LLC and consisted of a complete glass-out, sanding, body repairs, and respray back to the original color of Alfa Verde Pino 216 (Pine Green). A new windshield was sourced and installed. All body rubber seals were replaced, bumpers and door sills were sent to Art Brash Polishing for restoration. The wheels were refinished and new hub cabs and fresh Vredestein Classic tires were fitted. Thousands were spent with Classic Alfa UK in sourcing new parts to ensure this car was given a new lease in life of its cosmetic presentation. Inside, sound insulation was replaced, new carpets were fitted with Alfa embroidered floor mats. The dash is original and shows very nice with no cracks. The wood was also in great condition and was left alone. Door hinges were replaced to correct the common GTV poor fit and door sagging issues. New handles and locks were also fitted. Overall this car was looks very proper original spec. It does have a few previous owner installed mods we left alone including; electric cooling fan conversion, electric washer pump fitted for windscreen, and sport exhaust fitted which sounds great.

This GTV is now presented for sale with 2 sets of keys, new correct reproduction tool kit, spare wheel, original jack, restoration receipts with photographs, logbook notes from 1985 to 2022, sales brochure, workshop manual, laminated wire diagram, framed Alfa Classiche certificate of origin, copies of previous owners titles, owners manuals, and some spare parts. The car has recently been featured at local shows including Classics on the Green at Chateau St. Michelle and Exotics at RTC All Italian Day to great admiration from all whom have seen it in person. This car is ready to please its next owner and will make a great addition to any collection.
