Classic Car Overview

1968 VW Bus… the story of a father, and a son… and a VW Bus.  In 2015, there was a father, who had a 15-year-old son who was a So. Cal surfer, that was yearning for his first car.  Dad said… “Son, let’s do a project together” … and so it started.  They surfed the internet, and looked far and wide, and decided on a 1968 “fixer upper VW bus”, to work on together.

It was a mechanically strong, but a bit under the weather. In a renowned classic car restoration shop they went to work… and the transformation began:  They stripped off all the paint and get down to down to bare metal, sand it, prime it… paint it!  They even found an original VW Bus Luggage Rack, and restored that, too.  Months later “the bus” came home, for the remainder of the restoration.  The VW Bus mechanic shop dropped the engine and checked it all out, upgraded all available systems, fixed the inoperative items.  Then, into the transmission shop, and new chrome bumpers, into the carpentry shop, where they installed a cool “L seating” arrangement, insulated the walls and floor boards, and installed new wood floor. Into the paint shop, for new interior paint, and off to a vintage car interiors shop for all new everything; upholstery, carpet, headliners, wind screen, visors, seat belts, etc.  Add in a “modernized” $5,000 eight speaker sound system, with back-up camera system, hands-free phone connection, blue-tooth system, removable sound bar (for sounds at the beach).  Build a custom surfboard table, back into the paint shop for more interior paint, back to the mechanics, for more tune-ups.  It was done.

BUT, by now Dad had decided this is WAY TOO NICE (and WAY TOO expensive) for the kid to be driving.  AND if he ever got it dinged up, Dad would NOT be happy!  Plus, the reality of having a vintage classic VW Bus is that it is harder to drive (stick shift, no power brakes, no power steering), and it not as safe as today’s modern cars, with air bags, etc.    So, Mom, Dad and the son took his savings and instead bought a $7,000, 10-year-old, Chrysler 300.  And the son was happy.

The bus now sits in the garage and needs to find a new home. This really should be driven by someone closer to Dad’s age… as a “Sunday Beach Driver”.   Who wants an almost fully restored 1968 “Vintage” VW Bus (about 97.86% restored)?

If REALLY interested, we will send you the  complete pictorial history.
