VW Kombi Van Seeing Resurgence in Popularity

The Volkswagen Kombi van reached iconic status, with even a school lunch box fashioned in its image. During those early years, the Volkswagen Microbus morphed into various forms. From a cargo carrier with no windows behind the driver's seat to a windowed passenger van with three rows of seats, the possibilities seemed endless.

Classic Car Overview

1968 Siata Spring - 850cc I4 - 4 Speed Manual Transmission - Black And Yellow Over Black Interior - Black Convertible Top - 51k Miles Originating as an Italian car tuning shop turned automotive manufacturer, Siata (Societ Italiana Auto Trasformazioni Accessori in English Italian Car Transformation Accessories Company) was founded in 1926 by amateur race car driver Giorgio Ambrosini. Siata initially sold performance parts to modify and tune vehicles manufactured by Fiat. After World War II, the company began producing its own sports cars under the Siata name until the companys bankruptcy following the first Arab oil embargo in the mid-1970s. Produced from 1967-1970, the Siata Spring was based on a modified Fiat 850 floorpan and incorporated 850 mechanicals. The Spring was a 2-seater roadster which featured retro styling with a mock upright radiator grille, separate wings and headlights and running boards. With strong design cues from the Siata Rallye and MG TD, the Spring was the best-selling model for Siata with a total production of approximately 3,500 units. Highlighted here is an unrestored, original vehicle which was imported straight from Italy. Presented in bright yellow and black with black interior, this Spring is completely one of a kind. Powered by an 850cc inline 4 cylinder and 4-speed transmission, this vehicle is best suited for a more leisurely lifestyle as the top speed is noted at only 78 mph. The original paint has aged beautifully and is polished to a nice show shine. The black fenders and running boards add to the overall aesthetic and are a nice break from the bright yellow color. There is some slight pitting and aging on the front grille and chrome pieces but nothing that would detract from the uniqueness of this vehicle. The engine compartment and undercarriage have been well-kept and display some of the original finishes that were applied close to 54 years ago. Although we were not given any specific service details, the photos confirm that any previous owners of this vehicle have kept up with all maintenance allowing this Spring to being a well driving vehicle. Inside the cabin, we are met with an expertly preserved interior. The black bucket seats appear to be in perfect condition and do not even show any wear on the side bolsters. The minimal dash and controls are accented with small wood inlays that add to the Springs overall charm. There does seem to be an additional voltage gauge added under the main dash cluster but beyond this minor add-on, all controls appear to be stock. The convertible top is in very good condition and does not appear to be over-stretched or damaged. Even though the Siata Spring may not be well-known among the collector car community, this Spring is a little gem that comes complete with lots of vehicle literature. If you are looking for something unconventional or just a little distinctive, this Spring is the perfect sports car for you. Please call if you are interested in the vehicle or send us an email if you have specific questions.
