The Shelby GT350 wasn't the only high-performance Mustang available if you wanted a fast pony.
Classic Car Overview
By 1968, the Shelby Mustang had transitioned from a somewhat brutish but undeniably capable track-ready car to a more comfortable, but still plenty fast, grand touring car. Compared to the hard-edged 65 and 66 versions, the 67 and later Shelby Mustangs were tuned to provide a more comfortable ride to go along with their performance. Inside, these Shelbys gained plusher seats and aluminum or woodtone accents on the dash and door panels, while options such as air conditioning, automatic transmission and an AM/FM stereo radio provided added luxury. For 1968, a convertible body style became available, offering the added thrill of top-down cruising to the Shelby Mustangs updated resume.
On offer here is a pristine 1968 Shelby GT 350 convertible with just 51,743 miles. Plenty of eye appeal comes by way of rarely seen Lime Green complimented by a black interior and roof. This GT 350 has had one very high-quality repaint on its excellent body and indeed holds up to the closest scrutiny. Inside, the original upholstery presents extremely well. Under the hood youll find the original, numbers-matching powertrain consisting of the 302 four-barrel V8 matched to a four-speed Toploader transmission that sends the power to the tires through a 3.89 geared rear end.
The included Marti report confirms not only the original and correct color scheme, but also that this Shelby was ordered with the following options: power steering, power front disc brakes, tilt-away steering wheel, AM radio and shoulder harness. A copy of the original window sticker accompanies the car. There is another interesting bit of history on this Shelby; it was featured in the 1991 movie "Indian Runner" that was directed by Sean Penn. The cars "supporting actor" status is confirmed by the Shelby Registry book and an original poster of the movie is included with the car, as is the original owners manual.
Stunning to look at and a thrill to drive, this low-mileage, virtually all original Shelby GT 350 4-speed convertible definitely belongs in the "try to find another one like this" category.
