Classic Car Overview
1968 Porsche 912 $38,500
This awesome 1968 Porsche 912 is a numbers matching car, originally purchased in Germany in 1967 (please note the original Porsche PFLEGEPASS dated 4.9.67), and then shipped to the U.S. to California in 1968 where it spent most of its life with 2 owners. It briefly was registered in Arizona in 2001 and I have owned it since that time. It is currently garaged in southern Colorado.
This 912 has been garaged for most of its life, and well maintained. The car is rust-free in its entirety and it had a completely dissembled repaint and color change around 20 years ago or so; the dark cherry pearl basecoat/clearcoat finish remains in excellent condition. The interior has been redone and later model Porsche 911 seats have been upgraded. Within the last 15K miles, the close ratio 5-speed transmission was rebuilt.
The original engine has been professionally engineered, machined, and built to high performance standards by Les Long of Air Power Racing at the Larry H. Miller raceway in Tooele, Utah in 2010. It has only 3000 very gentle miles since the build. This engine is balanced, it has an Elgin cam, Weber 44’s/K&N’s, flat top pistons (compression 9.5:1), machined casing/headwork for larger bore jugs, tuned Bursch exhaust, and much more. Displacement has been increased to 1900cc over the stock 1600cc, with a dyno of 136.5 HP vs. 102 HP stock. Air Power Racing also installed a full-flow oil system with filter and remote cooler, similar to their 356 racers, which additionally circulates an extra quart of oil to the engine. I have documentation of the build as well as many other records over the years. Needless to say, it runs very strong!
This mild custom Porsche 912 has been professionally well cared for and well sorted. Not a stock 912, in addition to the high performance numbers matching engine, the original Koni suspension has been upgraded to a super heavy duty Kontrolle struts/shocks performance system and pro refinished OEM Fuch 16x6 wheels and new 205/55 tires have been added. The complete shifter mechanism has been rebuilt and the original gauges have been rebuilt leaving the original patina/color intact. The flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate are new. It sports the coveted European exhaust and heater/defrost system so it performs well in tepid weather. This is an exceptional P-car.
