Classic Car Overview
1968 Pontiac Firebird Convertible $47,500
Beautiful '68 PHS Documented Firebird 400 Convertible.
Turbo Hydramatic Transmission
2 Sets of Wheels (original Rally II & US Mags), plus full size and compact spare
This eye catching classic had full restoration completed in 2008, as described below. Everything was restored to replicate the original car with the exception of the front disc brake conversion, quick ratio steering box, upgraded anti sway bars and 17" wheels and tires. The original Rally II wheel and red line tires are included in the sale. It was known from the beginning that this car is a Non Numbers Matching vehicle and remains so. It has a 1969 YD 400 engine block and a remanufactured Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 transmission. The result was to be a car that was as near to being as manufactured as possible to be driven and enjoyed.
The early life of the car was spent in California - I have many receipts from previous owners dating to 1976 when the car was registered in CA, plus receipts from the restoration. The car went to the Maryland/Virginia area in 1996 and was in North Carolina from 2006 to 2014 where it was restored and completed in 2008, after which it was sold to the current owner (me), and I have put about 1,000 miles to it since then. We have since moved from Maryland to Colorado and Arizona, and now the car is back in California (each move was by covered auto transport). This bird looks great and drives well, and as with most older cars, it does have a few squeaks in the suspension and leaves a few leak spots on occasion. The antenna area of the fender has a small section of rust at the base where it meets the car, and I opted not to repair at this time (see photo).
During the restoration, the following items were replaced, reconditioned or repaired:
