Classic Car Overview
1968 MGC GT California Black Plate | Extremely Solid | 60-Spoke Chrome Wires
A lifelong California black plate car, this MGC GT is exceptionally solid, straight, and rust-free. The body shows excellent panel gaps with no signs of past accidents in either the frame or body structure. It wears an older but quality dark metallic blue respray that still presents well with deep shine, though close inspection reveals age-related chips, scratches, and minor cracking (see images). The car rides on classic 60-spoke chrome wire wheels.
Mechanical
The 2.9L inline-six engine runs exceptionally well, starting immediately on the key with strong oil pressure, smooth manners, and healthy power delivery. Although no mechanical records accompany the car, its condition suggests long-term proper care.
On the road, the MGC drives smoothly and confidently. The gearbox shifts cleanly with no grinding or gear pop-out, and the power from the inline 6 suits the chassis beautifullya significant and welcome step up from the standard MGBs 1.8L B-series.
The only noted issue is an audible pop from the front suspension when reversing on full steering lock. Under normal driving conditions, the suspension behaves properly and feels as it should.
Interior
The interior is exceptionally nice, likely restored at some point. The seats and carpets present beautifully with no notable blemishes, and the seating feels fresh and well-padded. The dashboard, door cards, and headliner are all in excellent condition with no cracks, tears, stains, or damage.
Engine Bay & Undercarriage
The engine bay remains highly original with much of the factory paint worn away, but it appears clean, complete, and free of active leaks. The undercarriage is similarly original and completely rust-free, showing only light surface corrosion in isolated areas. Some sections appear to retain factory undercoating, which has helped preserve the metal. Both battery boxes are solid and corrosion-free, and the fuel tank looks to have been replaced at some point.
Electrics & Other Notes
Lights and gauges appear to be operational, with the exception of the tachometer which has a bouncy needle. A previous owner wired the turn signals to beep through the speakers as an audible reminder. The car is sold with a clean California title.
Overall, this is a remarkably solid, rust-free California MGC GT that runs and drives well ready to be enjoyed immediately.
