Classic Car Overview

1968 Ford Mustang Convertible

For consignment, a 1968 Ford Mustang convertible with a title verified 104,434 actual miles. This car has the esteemed credential of being built by Fantomworks TV as one of their season five projects and one of their tasks was replacing the inline six with a 289 from another 68.

Exterior
The boys at Fantomworks confirmed theres never been any metal work on this rust free example, now dressed in two stage Candy Apple Red and sporting a white canvas top. Up front, the classic inboard fog lights are flanked by that familiar fascia while turn signals are reserved for the low panel under the laser straight chrome bumper. Side molding connects with the quarter panel duct trim and a thin stripe runs the beltline, while out back, its textbook 68 Mustang in all its glory, here with down turned exhaust tips. But the cherry on top might actually be on the bottom; those 15-inch Shelby 10 spoke wheels are fantastic and give the car its own personality, equally wrapped in 225/60R15s. Imperfections include some dullness and roughness to the cowl panel, edge chips in various places, chipped paint and heavy touch up in the nose seam, other random chips, scratches, and scuffs, discoloration and a tear in the white top, blistering at the rocker panel and near wheel openings.

Interior
Clean black vinyl door cards occupy the ports and present nicely with a bit of loose trim on the passenger door, opening up to an uncommon split bench configuration of black vinyl on the inside, complete with center armrest. Both the front and rear seats are in great shape and look fresh and while some of the chrome has light pitting on the dash, the vintage layout is sporty, functional and clean. A modernized Mustang AM/FM/Cassette radio is dead center and the material on the dash to the right is nice. The familiar Ford shifter is on the transmission tunnel over black loop carpet and Mustang branded mats and in the trunk, a plaid vinyl mat finishes things off.

Drivetrain
Looking right at home and fresh is the Ford blue 289ci V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor over a Summit racing intake. Behind it, a C4 3-speed automatic transmission routing power to the Ford 8 in back. The car has power steering and power brakes.

Undercarriage
Clean and dry underneath with bright dual exhaust running through Xlerator mufflers before heading out. Brakes are applied as power disc in front and power drums in back and suspension includes coil spring and leaf springs, front and back respectively.

Drive-Ability
Does it drive as nicely as it looks? Sure does! The 289 delivers and this happy topless Mustang now thrives with two extra cylinders in a V-pattern, delivering plenty of pep to trot this red flyer around the test loop. Its surefooted, tracks straight and handles turns nicely, and another cherry is found on top; all functions work as intended on this well sorted car. Thanks, Fantomworks! While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

This one puts the must in Mustang, as in you must have this! A fun in the sun cherry red pony car with numerous cherries on top! Save it for Sunday sundae runs, drive it in to car shows, or simply park in the garage and check in on it every night! You simply cant lose with a classic Mustang.
