1968 Ford Mustang Convertible
Given that the 21st century has seen a sort of return to the roots aspect for the Mustang, it was probably only a matter of time before the Boss 302 made a return. Over the last few years there's been steady and growing interest in the concept of a new-age Trans Am Special.
Jim Clarke led the charge with the creation of the 5.0 HO V8 for the Mustang in 1982 and was responsible for the continuous improvement of the 5.0 throughout the '80s. What Jim and his team accomplished is truly amazing.
Classic Car Overview
1968 Mustang convertible, 289 2 barrel, C code, C 4 automatic transmission, Factory power top, Factory power steering, Factory power brakes upgraded to POWER DISC BRAKES, Center Console, wire wheel hub caps, Virtually new dual trumpet exhaust that sounds great, Virtually new Tires, New floors and rear quarters have been installed. Inspected till 2020. Red Rangoon paint with Red interior and white top.
HISTORY, Was in same family for 20 years. Owner was a mechanic which explains its working condition. Car was stored properly in a garage not in a mouse ridden barn.
THIS IS A RUNNING FUNCTIONING WORKING VEHICLE that needs cosmetic attention. ITS NOT A LONG TERM PROJECT CAR or A OVERPRICED FINISHED ONE.
starts right up. Noticed no exhaust smoke, no engine noise, idles very
smoothly, accelerates well, Good power, no unusual noises when driving it,
rides well, suspension seems fine, Car tracks well, Turn’s well, Steers well, Top
works, radio works, Pretty much everything I tried works. Not a whole heck of a lot of mechanical stuff to do.
BODY: I cannot find through body rot. Floors and rear quarters have already y been installed. The car needs paint attention. Very minor surface rust where paint is missing. You could touch up the rough spots but I would paint the whole car. The convertible top is dirty, you could try to brighten it but I would just replace it with a nice bright new white top, especially if you are going to paint it. The body is pretty straight. Drivers door is a little wavy and it seems this could easily be corrected. Both front and rear bumper chrome looks new. Emblems, Mirror and door handle chrome has age appropriate wear.
INTERIOR: Very good usable overall condition as is. No rips in seats or carpets, car does not smell moldy, dash pad does not sag, interior chrome shows typical age wear. Has some color fade from top being down all the time. Has convertible cover for when top is down, also has total car cover. Passenger window crank does not work and that’s not a big deal to fix.
WHY AM I SELLING: I own two Mustang already. a 67 and a 68 convertible. I want to turn my 68 convertible into a trailer queen so I bought this one to be my driver. It a running car that needs cosmetic work more than anything else and it has all the right upgrades and factory options. Then i decided i wanted a 67 Galaxie xl so I am selling this one.
PRICE: Based upon all considerations I believe I have fairly priced this car. (if you think it’s worth more I will consider all offers...lol) Seriously….I WILL CONSIDER ALL OFFERS, SO just call me with one. BUT, Before you do, take a look at what long term restoration project cars are priced at and take a look at what finished ones, with and without these options and upgrades, are priced at, then make one. It don't hurt to make a offer or call me.
SUMMARY/REALITY: Most of the typical bull work has been done. This is a pretty solid driver with a lot of working options. It just needs some cosmetic work.
