Ford produced 734,638 Galaxy models in 1968 and of those, 11,832 were convertibles and only 6,066 convertibles were 500 XL versions. This particular Galaxy is equipped with a rare 390ci Thunderbird V8 engine and a 4 speed standard transmission. We were not able to obtain how many 390 4 speed galaxy 500 XL convertibles were produced in 1968 but rest assured, it was a very low number making this one somewhat rare. Equipped with power steering, power disc brakes, factory chrome mags, whitewall radial tires, hide away headlights and dual exhaust, this Galaxy is the best of both worlds. Its feel and handling is that of a full sized luxury vehicle but the 390 Thunderbird engine coupled with a four speed standard transmission adds a measure of performance to the overall experience. Finished in Wimbledon white with red lower horizontal striping, the body panels appear laser straight and are complemented by chrome wheel opening moldings and XL body trim. A white convertible top in excellent condition rounds out the overall exterior appearance of this timeless classic. The trunk area containing a spare tire and jack is fully carpeted and found to be in very good condition. Viewing the factory red interior, we find comfortable bucket seats up front separated by a full console sporting a factory tachometer and a four speed shifter. A color matched full bench seat is located to the rear. The dash features standard instrumentation, an AM/FM in dash radio as well as a Pioneer stereo mounted just under the dash area on the passenger side.
