Classic Car Overview

1968 Ford Bronco U100 Pickup For consignment, a 1968 Ford Bronco U100 pickup showing 9,098 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This was purchased by our consignor from the family of the original owner and it has been maintained with new or rebuilt components as needed. In 1968, just 2,210 half cabs, as they were called, were built and only about 14,000 Broncos total. Exterior This little red pickup is sharply dressed in two stage Rangoon Red, propped up on 15-inch American Racing wheels and 75series tires. Its square profile is all Bronco and flat fascia now features a red grille with polished trim surround. Polished bumpers bookend the rig, and a solid rear window is equal in size to the windshield, allowing for a bright greenhouse and ample visibility. A fitted rubber mat protects the clean red bed and a covered spare tire is mounted inside. Overall, paint, body, and brightwork is in very nice condition with imperfections noted as some orange peel and painted uneven filler and a crack in the paint under the door. Interior White door cards contrast with the body colored painted steel and black hardware on the doors. That black is picked up by the vinyl covered bench seat in fine shape and situated behind a simple black steering wheel that leads to a white dashboard housing a single gauge, a speedometer surrounded by smaller meters. Functional knobs take up more of the dash along with an AM/FM radio and smooth glovebox. Fords familiar T-handle tops the range selector perched on the transmission tunnel and black carpet nicely covers the floor. Red paint glistens on the ceiling and black visors take their place on the windshield header. Drivetrain Under the hood, a clean 289ci V8, rated at 200 horsepower and fueled via a rebuilt 2-barrel carburetor. Our consignor states there is a newer water pump, radiator, and fuel pump. Its backed by a 3 speed manual transmission that can split power between the Dana 44 axle in front and the Ford 9 in back, both with 3.50 gears and Equalock in back. Undercarriage A newer gas tank and dual exhaust highlight this clean underside. The dual exhaust flows through glasspack style mufflers before exiting behind each rear wheel. Drum brakes occupy front and rear and suspension is configured as coils spring with radius arms up front and leaf springs in back. Drive-Ability We hopped in the compact cab and rowed the three on the tree onto the test loop where this little runner does everything well. Visibility is good 360 degrees, decent power is expended by the engine, and road holding capabilities are on point. All functions available operate as they should and were happy to put this one under the lights, even if only for a brief time. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. Theres a fun factor to this diminutive pickup that makes its utilitarian nature secondary, especially since you probably wont be taking it off road. Its an attractive and somewhat rare ride, and part of a particularly hot genre in the market right now. This one is well sorted, good looking, and just the right size for a power to weight ratio thats more than adequate. Dont sneeze, this one wont last.
