Classic Car Overview

1968 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe

For consignment, a 1968 Chevrolet Corvette coupe with a title verified 41,504 actual miles. This car has been owned by our consignor since 1991 and has its numbers matching engine and transmission still in place.

NOTE: The VIN on this vehicle denotes the car to be a convertible, while it is clearly a coupe.

NOTE: The trim plate on this vehicle is from a 1975 model year Corvette

Exterior
This great American sports car is finished in Black, the right color to enable metal accents to pop and there are several notable ones including the front and rear bumpers which hug the body, the side pipes, and of course the 15-inch Chevrolet Rally wheels wrapped in 60 series tires with an early 2025 date code. Those side pipes are covered with a finned exterior that accentuates the square polished tips that face downward instead of outward. A vertical rear window is encased in flying buttresses that extend over the decklid which goes flat just before a subtle spoiler rises from the body, itself framing the iconic quad tail lights underscored by a split rear bumper. Fender vents are a key feature of any Corvette and 68 does it right, while the low, pointed nose emerges from rising shoulders over the front wheels. Imperfections include chips, scuffs, and scratches throughout, areas of orange peel, filled holes in the hood, evidence of former luggage rack, evidence of repairs on nose, wheels arches, fenders, left rear quarter panel and some paint runs.

Interior
Sixties simplicity starts on the door panels which are as much artistic as they are functional, utilizing sculpted plastic and black vinyl for structure and a jutting armrest that terminates in a door handle. Tall bucket seats in stitch patterned black vinyl look to be in great shape although we notes some wear on the drivers side piping. A brown rim surrounds metal spokes on the steering wheel and leads to the dual gauge presentation in front of the driver, while theres five more gauges to read in the center, and it all in good condition. An AM/FM/Cassette radio is on hand followed by a row of small indicator lights, just before the center console begins and provides a base to the chrome balled shifter behind vent controls, showing touches of wear and cracking in places. Black loop carpet covers the floor and the rear cargo area and shows some fading. A pair of Sony box speakers occupy the back of the cargo area.

Drivetrain
Under the hood is the numbers matching 327ci V8, rated at 350 horsepower and fueled with a Holley 4-barrel carburetor. The powerplant is mated to the numbers matching Munci M20 4-speed manual transmission sending power to the rear axle with 3.70 gears and Positraction. Headers are on board, as are power brakes and power steering. The air conditioning has been removed.

Undercarriage
Driver quality conditions prevail underneath with typical surface rust, metal oxidation, and some notably dry bushings, but in overall good structural condition. Dual exhaust split wide to become side pipes and power disc brakes are at all four wheels. Suspension consists of coil springs in front with a transverse leaf spring and complex, frame anchored differential unit with tubular axle drive shafts in back.

Drive-Ability
Analog perfection greets us in the cockpit and we roll this 58 year old classic onto the test loop where it performs well, providing good power, straight tracking, and of course, Corvette-worthy handling. We note the radio, clock, and passengers power window not working but all other functions operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Years before emission regulations choked out the power of future Corvettes, the 68 327 was pumping out more than 300 horsepower. Maybe you were a 10 year old who fell in love with its lines. Your paper route could not have paid for one back then and you didnt have a drivers license, but youre in a different place now and this example represents your opportunity to live out your 58 year old dream.
