1968 Chevrolet Camaro
With all the hoopla surrounding the new Camaro 1LE, let's look back at the original.
The story of the ZL1 Camaro, fitted with that rarest of the rare, all-aluminum 427 big-block V-8, is one that has often been told: How only 69 were made, how they exploited the GM option-ordering system, and how they've become the Camaro guy's ultimate Camaro.

Fresh from our restoration shop is this
frame-off nut & bolt restored Numbers Matching 68 Camaro SS396/375 L-78 RPO
We originally discovered this car in 2015 in a barn in Lees-burg Va, unfortunately we couldnt strike a deal with its longtime (since high school in the 70s) owner. Fast Forward to 2017, We get a call and are told to bring the trailer. (JAW DROPPED) We rush to get it back to our shop and immediately begin the restoration process. We stripped the car down to bare metal to discover an original body including original quarters, floors, frame & trunk. The body was then fitted & block sanded multiple times to obtain concourse results. It was then painted in its original code RR Matador Red using PPG base & multiple coats of Hi-Pro clear. To really make it pop, we wet sanded between its final coats and let it bake for 24 hours. Now out of the paint booth we began the painstaking task of color sanded the entire car using a 3 step process with high quality polish and then buffed it out to a brilliant shine. New front and rear glass was installed as well as all new chrome, trim, weather-stripping lights & lenses to ensure this paint job was accented correctly. All new interior was installed including, carpet, seats. door panels & headliner and it really looks awesome.
Now onto the mechanical side of things, we pulled the Numbers Matching 396/375 L-78 out, freshened it up as we inspected it. We also pulled the M-22 4 speed transmission and were happy to find everything looking great internally and cleaned it up while it was out as well. Lastly, we pulled the original BU 3:73 12 Bolt Posi-Traction rear, inspected it to find clean internals replaced the seals and filled it with fresh gear oil before reinstalling it. While everything was out we sand blasted and painted the frame and floors to make them look brand new. We then tackled out installing all new brake, steering & suspension systems. Brand new fuel tank & fuel lines were added, a new wiring harness was also installed. In short, this entire camaro is basically brand new!
Once we completed this build we had Jerry MacNeish inspected and certify the car and we registered it in the international L-78 Registry.
