Classic Car Overview
Rocket was all the buzz word back in 1967 and this Delta Oldsmobile is no exception. Restored over the course of 3 years, from 1992 to 1994, then garage kept, this restoration has aged well and is now being offered for consignment to you. Sporting very nice maroon paint, throw on a white canvas convertible top for some contrast, and Im ready to drive home, pet the dog, kiss my wife, and sit down to read the paper while dinner is on the boil, all the while smoking my pipe. Exterior Draped in its nice application of maroon, the long steel Coke-bottle design is presenting well with only a few minor non-noteworthy imperfections on the well minded gapped body. A beautifully preserved white convertible top crowns this beauty retaining the clear glass window. The dual headlights with central signal markers and grilles flank a center horizontally beaked grille and a lower gigantic wrap around and under bumper. A long straight steel hood has very nice front quarters on either side, which move rearward to the dual massive doors that swing evenly balanced and can be pushed with 1 finger. Chrome trim in the form of dual side view mirrors, and handles are excellently preserved as are the wide rocker molding that traverse the wheel wells and cover the lower leading edges of the front and rear quarters. White pinstriping following the undulating beltline adds a touch of class, as does the sloping rear deck and bumper which shares the integration of the horizontal deeply inset rectangular tail lamps. Just say big and this also describes this classic Olds. Interior About as nice as it gets with rectangular stitched puffy center panels on the doors in black vinyl. Chrome strips delineate this from the smooth outer panels that hold the window cranks, mirror joystick and lower courtesy lamp assembly. Black vinyl covers the seats, and is truly showroom condition. These front seats are like large recliners in split bench form, and share a central puffy fold down armrest. A rear bench stretches across the back, and is also pristine. The dash up front is also well heeled, and sports a wood grained appliqu, some padded black vinyl, and a strip of aluminum which houses knobs, buttons, radio, and ignition. In the appliqu are a trio of round deep set in angled gauges with near perfect bezels. Oh, and did I mention this car is equipped with a factory tachometer as well. An original steering wheel fronts this beautiful dash, and very clean black carpeting covers the floors. Just as big as the outside and maintaining the 60s rocket-age futuristic motif. Drivetrain A big and red 425ci V8 is within a lightly patinaed engine bay. Some rust and slight oiling has built up over the years but the block blazes in its red painted glory and an orange Oldsmobile Super Rocket labled air cleaner covers the Rochester 850 4-barrel carburetor. A TH400 3-speed automatic is on the back of this engine and turns a Positraction equipped 10 bolt 2.93 geared axle. Undercarriage A light coating of surface rust is seen throughout the undercarriage on the usual suspects, but the perimeter frame and flooring retains is black finish and is structurally sound with a dusting of maroon paint from the restoration. Independent coil spring suspension is seen in the front and in back we note a 4 link and coil spring designation. Power drum brakes are all around and for the exhale we note a stock style single exhaust system. Drive-Ability At first glance youd surmise that this car would be more of a cruiser than a bruiser, but nothing could be further from the truth. It started right up without even a hint of complaining, ran great, handled well, and stopped quickly. It actually provides a very smooth ride with phenomenal acceleration and handled our test tracks pothole section swimmingly. A few frowns crept up during our drive and those being the AC not blowing cold and the top needing some assistance going back up. This 1967 Delta 88 is in fine condition and is holding up well as an older restoration. A big 425ci Rocket V8, clean interior, a factory tachometer keep this Olds spot on point with the advertising taglines of the day. Reasonably affordable elegance...Get me my pipe and hat, Im taking the family for a jaunt to the museum to feed the ducks. 358677E116034 3-Oldsmobile 58-Delta 88 67-Convertible 7-1967 E-Linden, NJ Assy Plant 116034-Sequential Unit Number TRIM TAG 10D-4th Week October Build ST 67 35867-1967 Delta 88 Convertible BDY BL238-Linden Body # TR 70-Black Vinyl PNT P2-Pewter, Black Top
