Classic Car Overview
-Brooklands Green with Tango Wineberry Zinda Connolly leather interior, Black vinyl soft top, Black vinyl tonneau, 2.2 Liter Engine, 4-Speed manual Gearbox, Rare and Fully restored. The Morgan Plus Four Super Sports was developed by Chris Lawrence and his Lawrence Tune team. Lawrence had begun privately developing the Morgan Plus 4 for racing in the late 1950s. By 1961, Lawrence was running the factory Works team of racers in the UK and Europe, regularly humbling significant opposition. At the time, the Morgan Motor Company didnt have the resources to officially run or sponsor a Works team so instead gave Chris Lawrence the support and encouragement to enable their racing at both national and international levels, often as Works entries. The Lawrence prepared Morgan Plus 4 was very successful in the 1959 UK Race Season. In 1962, his competition successes came to the notice of Peter Morgan, who offered him Morgan works support. As a result, Lawrence won his Class in the 1962 Le Mans 24 hour race. Under the name Lawrence Tune, he prepared engines for Morgan when specially ordered. The Lawrence Tune Morgan Super Sports used the aluminum low-line bodies prepared specially for Le Mans. In 1960, Morgan teamed up with Lawrence Tune, who modified the engines of a small number of Plus 4s to be entered into various endurance events, including the Le Mans 24. Since it was not unusual for these modified cars to secure at least Class wins, they duly created interest amongst the sports car fraternity to encourage Morgan to produce equivalent modified Plus 4s for their road clientele. Hence the birth of the Plus 4 Super Sports. In February 1961, Morgan launched the Super Sports which featured: Specially modified 2138 cc, 4-cylinder Triumph TR2 engine developing 125 bhp at 5500 rpm Four speed manual gearbox Gas flowed head Compression ratio of 9.0:1 Modified camshaft Balanced crankshaft Two twin choke Webber 42DCOE carburettors Special inlet manifold Four branch exhaust system using two pipes An oil cooler Four wheel disc brakes This Morgan is a factory-built example, it has been documented by Morgan Archivist - Martin Webb as a LHD Super Sports with Low Line body, Bucket seats, Selectrides, Heater and Windscreen washer. It was dispatched on July 19, 1967 to Metro motors, Windsor, Ontario, Canada. This Super Sports has enjoyed recent long term collector ownership since 2011 to present. Used sparingly and maintained where and when needed, this rare and unique Morgan is in spectacular condition throughout. A truly unique opportunity, we are honored to be able to offer this Plus Four Super Sports to market in ready to use condition and for immediate enjoyment.
