Classic Car Overview

So, this is it. The best year for an MGB, the best options for an MGB. And the best older MGB we have ever had for sale. A car we have been servicing and improving for a local Surgeon and one that follows the pattern of improvements I have lavished on my own 1965 MGB.

Beautiful exterior, deep BRG paint, mostly new chrome, wire wheel, new expensive cloth convertible top and boot cover. Nicely reupholstered interior with new leather seats, panels, carpets, and stitched door tops. And as a car that spent most of its life in California, no rust underneath....really excellent floors, battery boxes, sills, rockers, etc.

Engine bay is spotless, excellent wiring, few miles on an expensive engine rebuild: block was crack tested, bored 20 over, balanced, ported and polished cylinder head, performance camshaft, complete head overhaul with hardened valve seats, new guides and double springs, new timing chain, all work done by a well known race engine builder in California, with an invoice of $10,000 in engine work.

Mated to a rebuilt four speed transmission with perfect working overdrive. Even first gear is close to silent, excellent synchromesh action, and the overdrive clicks in and out quickly and with no slipping. Wonderful. And with overdrive, one turns far lower revs on the highway and makes cruising oh, so much more appealing. Providing six forward ratios.

A few years ago the front suspension was rebuilt with new bushings and a thicker sway bar for more precise steering and handling. Brakes rebuilt, new fuel tank, Aeroquip brake lines, subframe bushings, new stainless steel exhaust system, AND LOTS AND LOTS of upgrades and accessories: new dual circuit master cylinder for a much higher degree of safety, converted to negative ground, modern digital stereo with bluetooth, big shrouded electric cooling fan for the radiator, high output supplemental heater under the dash which provides heat comparable to a contemporary car, Lucas driving lights, and a long list of minor items.

This car really goes....probably around 110hp with five (actually with overdrive working on both 3rd and 4th gears, SIX) forward gear ratios, disc brakes, reasonable specifications for a 56 year old sports car. And the unibody construction provide rattle free operation on a rough road.

For someone who wants to get into a not very expensive classic sports car, equally at home at classic car shows as on the proverbial country winding roads, hard to beat this superb early MGB. With performance superior to a 356 Porsche, ageless styling, comfortable, and with incredible precise steering, braking, and handling. All reasons MGBs were the best selling British sports car of all time.
