Classic Car Overview

When Jaguar set out to replace the aging XK-150, which had its origins in the 1948 XK-120, Sir William Lyons relied once again on his proven strategy of blending race-proven technology with exotic styling to create a mass-market car. Lyons, along with his chief aerodynamicist Malcolm Sayer, collaborated on designing the new sports car. This design incorporated a semi-monocoque tub with innovative bolt-on front sub-frames to support the engine and independent front suspension, inspired by the Le Mans-winning D-Type. The new E-Type featured the inventive modular independent rear suspension with inboard brakes, previously pioneered on the Mk10. It also boasted cutting-edge technology such as four-wheel disc brakes, torsion bar front suspension, and a 3.8-liter version of the XK twin-cam inline six delivering an impressive 265 horsepowerperformance that rivaled much more expensive cars. The E-Types body was strikingly beautiful, blending curvaceous lines with sporty aggression, and it made a significant impact when unveiled at the 1961 Geneva Auto Salon, earning acclaim from press, public, and competitors alike. An improved 4.2-liter version of the E-Type replaced the 3.8-liter engine for the 1965 model year, enhancing torque and flexibility while introducing a new, more comfortable interior. However, increasing safety and emissions regulations in the USA necessitated further revisions by 1968.

Information acquired through XKE Data reveals that the 1967 E-Type Series I Fixed Head Coupe (FHC) showcased here was meticulously restored and upgraded by the esteemed Vicarage Company. Established in Wolverhampton, England, in 1982, Vicarage has been dedicated to restoring and rebuilding Jaguars for over 40 years. A Vicarage E-Type is a rare gem, merging stunning aesthetics with exceptional build quality and performance that remains as exhilarating today as it was when the E-Type first captured the automotive world in 1967. This particular E-Type has undergone extensive enhancements, highlighting the full extent of Vicarages expert craftsmanship.

The exterior has been finished in a stunning shade of Golden Sand, with exceptional brightwork showing only minimal signs of pittingtypical for a car intended for open-road touring. The car is fitted with Motor Wheel Service wheels, allowing for a larger tire size of 225/50R15, which enhances handling and braking while offering a wider selection of tire compounds. Another noticeable upgrade is the cars stance. Vicarage improved the suspension with adjustable torsion bars and lowering springs, achieving two key benefits: an aggressive posture and a lowered center of gravity, which significantly improves handling on winding roads.

Under the clamshell bonnet, the upgrades continue, emphasizing the driver experience and event touring. The original 4.2 Series I inline-six engine has been replaced with a more powerful and refined Series II engine, now producing over 280 bhp. This impressive power comes from custom-tuned SU carburetors, XJ connecting rods, K&N air filters, and a late XJ6 ignition system. To ensure reliability and longevity with this increased power, a larger aluminum radiator has been installed to enhance engine cooling. All of this is paired with a 5-speed gearbox based on a Borg-Warner T5, allowing the driver to stay closer to the power band and improve acceleration. A high-flow twin exhaust system has been fitted to complement the engine tone and reduce restriction, producing a delightful sound when the car is opened up. Additionally, an Optima battery has been installed, offering reduced weight, vibration resistance, and higher cranking power.

The cabin of this XKE has also undergone a meticulous restoration, with nearly every surface reupholstered in luxurious Cinnamon leather, covering the bucket seats, center console, door panels, and rear trunk deck. The upholstery is taut and shows minimal signs of use. A sporty Nardi steering wheel has been added, further enhancing the cars driver-focused theme. To elevate the audio experience during tours, the car is equipped with a Sony head unit paired with high-quality speakers.

This 1967 Jaguar Series I E-Type FHC truly excels in delivering an authentic classic sports car experience thanks to Vicarage Company. Its been tastefully upgraded with the driving enthusiast in mind, improved handling, better stopping power, enhanced cooling, and increased power output. This is a car for those who believe that cars are meant to be driven, not just trailered. It maintains the classic E-Types iconic style and spirit while elevating the driving experience to new heights.
