VW Kombi Van Seeing Resurgence in Popularity

The Volkswagen Kombi van reached iconic status, with even a school lunch box fashioned in its image. During those early years, the Volkswagen Microbus morphed into various forms. Classic Car Overview

Recently acquired from a mid Western fellow, purchased it over ten years ago on the West Coast. As he told us, was thoroughly rebuilt and restored, when his purchased the car, just had the carb rebuilt and little else. With 32,000 miles indicated.

So, in our observations..........came with a 'Sunbeam Tiger Owner's Association'' certificate issued confirming the car's authenticity. And listed as a 'Mk IA."

Examination underneath found no rust, what appears to be an excellent floor/chassis/inner sills. Excellent body and red paint All original ID tags affixed with original rivets.

Runs great, 60-70 psi oil pressure, no smoke, quiet valves, and (of course) strong performance. Gearbox shifted smoothly and with excellent synchromesh action. Very clean engine bay, wiring, plumbing, etc. Interior appears to be all new, has a good convertible top and a perfect fitting hardtop.

Chrome, trim, gauges, wood dash, emblems and insignia are all correct and in very good condition. Same with the trunk compartment. Has what appears to be a new aluminum radiator, proper 'Tiger powered by Ford' alloy rocker covers, looking new: metal brake lines, calipers, Koni shocks, master cylinders, wood steering wheel, trunk upholstery. With spotless (new?) eight spoke Minilite style alloy wheels with 195/60-14 radials.

Always reluctant to deal with subjective assessments. But all in all, it certainly appears to be in concours condition and, on the road, certainly doesn't disappoint. HENCE, if you like what you see in the photos, it will not be disappointing.

As for the rest, with its 289 cubic inch Ford V8...no ideas as to horsepower (which is why, the curious relay on the numbers provided by a dyno), BUT in a little sports car rated as being 2,645 pounds, and with a good 289 putting out AT LEAST 200-225-250hp (?), it does offer rather sparkling performance.
