Classic Car Overview
Classic Car Addict is proud to present this beautiful 1966 Pontiac GTO for sale in our Mesa, Arizona showroom. The first Pontiac GTO began production in 1963 and was available as an option package for the LeMans model, available in coupe, hardtop, and convertibles. In 1965, the Tempest model lineup including the GTO was restyled with a simulated hood scoop. For 1966, the GTO became a separate Pontiac model (number 242) instead of being an options package on the Tempest LeMans. The body was restyled gaining more curvaceous styling with kicked-up rear fender lines for a Coke-bottle look. For 1966, sales increased to 96,946, the highest production figure for all GTO years. Pontiac had promoted the GTO in advertising as the GTO Tiger , but it had become known in the youth market as the GOAT . The cabin features custom TMI front bucket seats finished in black leather and Alcantara with blue stitching. Door panels are also custom that match the seats with blue stitching. New black carpet was also installed during restoration. It features a custom center console with a Hurst shifter and Vintage AC that blows nice and cold. The car from factory was code 1 , which means special paint. The GTO now wears a custom Cobalt Blue paint that really shines under any light. She features the stacked headlights (HID), hood scoop, and chrome trim on the bumpers, window surrounds, rocker panels, and grille. She rolls on staggered Forgiato Azioni-T rims (19 front and 20 rear) with Lexani LX-Twenty 245/35ZR19 front and 275/30ZR20 rears. The 389ci V8 (Pontiac blue metallic engine block) is paired to a Muncie 4-speed manual transmission (M21, close ratio) and features a FiTech fuel injection system, chrome air cleaner and valve covers, aluminum radiator with electric fans. The engine was rebuilt and balanced during the restoration. Power is sent to the rear via a 10-bolt rear end with 350 gear ratios. The battery was replaced in July 2024.
