It's hard to imagine that the Pontiac GTO might never have made it into production. Had it not been for a small group of managers at Pontiac who were also car enthusiasts and visionaries, the GTO might not have been.

Classic Car Overview

Gateway Classic Cars of Atlanta is proud to represent this 1965 Pontiac GTO Convertible! The first generation of the GTO is credited as popularizing the muscle car market segment in the 1960s. The Pontiac GTO is considered by some to have started the trend with all four domestic automakers offering a variety of competing models. The GTO became a separate Pontiac model (model number 242) in 1966 instead of being an option package on the Tempest LeMans. An automotive industry first was a plastic front grille that replaced the pot metal and aluminum versions used in earlier years. The instrument panel was redesigned and more integrated than in previous years with the ignition switch moved from the far left of the dash to the right of the steering wheel. Four pod instruments continued and the GTOs dash was highlighted by walnut veneer trim. This particular 1966 example is optioned in Red over White Vinyl power electric top and a black bucket seat interior. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 389ci V8 topped with a 4-Barrel carburetor backed by a 4-Speed Manual Transmission. Plenty of work has been done to keep this old girl authentic and on the road and it is ready for another summer driving season with the top down! If you are in the market for a fun topless cruiser that is worth the investment this 1966 GTO To see more HD pictures and video please visit GatewayClassicCars.com.
