The car is finished in Cameo White with a black vinyl top over a black interior, and power comes from a numbers-matching 389ci V8 paired with a two-speed automatic transmission. Features include Ice cold air conditioning and power-assisted steering and brakes, while modifications installed during previous ownership include Rally I wheels, an HEI distributor, Bilstein shocks, MagnaFlow mufflers, and an Alpine stereo with Sirius XM, hands free phone connection and Bluetooth capability. A November 2020 service included the installation of new tires, a water pump, battery, and fresh fluids.
Delivered from the factory with the “Special Paint 1” option as indicated in the included PHS documents, painted Cameo White prior to 1988 and was repainted again in Cameo White in 2002, at which time the vinyl roof was replaced. Styling elements include louvered taillight covers, bumper-mounted reverse lights, chrome bumpers, and a hood scoop.
Rally I wheels wear chrome trim rings and were mounted with new Coker Firestone FR70 bias-ply-look radial redline tires in November 2020. Bilstein shocks are fitted at all four corners, fresh brake fluid was added and new weather stripping in the trunk. Power-assisted steering and brakes were optioned from the factory.
The seats are trimmed in black vinyl with matching carpets and door panels, a black dash pad, and a wood grain dash veneer. Equipment includes factory-installed air conditioning that was converted to run on R134a refrigerant, a Rally clock, a center console with chrome trim, an Alpine satellite radio-capable stereo with Bluetooth, Hands Free Phone Operation, Alpine 6 speakers & subwoofer mounted in the kick panels and parcel shelf, and a trunk-mounted amplifier. The five-digit odometer is said to have rolled over and now shows 6700miles. Pitting is noted on the center console
The 389ci V8 is equipped with a four-barrel carburetor and was rated at 335 horsepower when new. The water pump and battery were replaced in November 2020, along with the engine oil and coolant. A tune-up was also performed, and an HEI distributor is fitted. The car retains its California-specific smog equipment and hoses were upgraded to run on Ethanol fuel.
Engine stamping 655784 matches the included warranty book and Protect-O-Plate. The XE designation corresponds to a 389ci V8 equipped with a four-barrel carburetor and an automatic transmission.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Super Turbine 300 two-speed automatic transmission and a WE-coded 3.08:1 standard rear axle. MagnaFlow mufflers are fitted as well as hood locks with keys. Also installed is an Anti-theft starter button that works very well. I took this car on a 2 hour road highway road trip with no issues.
The cowl-mounted data plate decodes as follows:
- 06C – Built during the third week of June
- 66 – 1966 model
- 24217 – GTO two-door hardtop coupe
- BF – Freemont, California, assembly plant
- 10222 – Body production sequence

Trunk has been refreshed including new weather stripping and contains the spare tire and original tire jack.
