Pontiac introduced the Grand Prix in 1962 as an all-new model within the growing personal luxury coupe segment. The performance-oriented model featured a unique interior treatment with bucket seats and center console, while also offering luxury features from the Bonneville. For 1965, the Grand Prix grew in size and saw styling changes such as vertically stacked headlights and a redesigned grille, in keeping with updates across Pontiacs lineup. For 1966, the design department further elevated the model from the rest of the lineup with wire mesh grilles enclosing rectangular parking lamps, ribbed lower beauty panels, fender skirts, and a shuttered rear light treatment. The second-generation Grand Prix, produced from 1965 to 1968, came exclusively as a coupe, except for 1967, when a convertible was also offered. Engine options included a standard 389-cubic-inch V-8 and a 421-cubic-inch V-8 available in either four-barrel or tri-power specification.

This 1966 Pontiac Grand Prix left the Doraville, Georgia, factory finished in Mission Beige over a black interior, equipped with Strato Bucket seats, air conditioning, tachometer, console, M40 Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission, and the highly desirable L-69 Tri-Power 421-cubic-inch V-8 engine a remarkable level of equipment. Once completed, the vehicle was sold via Lamar Nash Pontiac in Buford, Georgia, to its first owner, Lester Van Winkle, in February 1966 at the cost of $4,012.

The car is now finished in appropriately menacing black paint, but the interior has remained true to its factory specifications and presents in fine condition. Included is an impressive history file with a build sheet, original purchase document, original registration, a tax form, a brochure, and a warranty booklet.
