Classic Car Overview

1966 Mercedes-Benz 230SL Euro-Spec Matching Numbers, 56k Miles, Highly Original This 1966 Mercedes-Benz 230SL is a well-preserved, numbers-matching European-specification example in its correct Arab Gray over original blue leather interior. Powered by its original 2.3L inline-six paired with a rare 4-speed automatic transmission, this W113 Pagoda has reportedly traveled just 89,900 kilometers (56,000 miles), believed to be original. The head light notches and original factory spot welds on the fenders are to be seen in the photos attached. According to the included data card, built in November 1965, one of the very last off the production line of this model ever built, this car retains its original engine, chassis, transmission, and key components-making it a true matching numbers example. Originally delivered in Germany, the vehicle is said to have been driven there before being imported to the United States in the early 1970s. It was placed into long-term storage in 1978, where it remained until circa 2015. At that point, the prior owner in Oklahoma undertook mechanical and cosmetic recommissioning, including fresh tires and drivetrain servicing. The current owner acquired the car in 2021 from the previous Oklahoma owner and has continued the preservation effort, completing paint correction, installing a factory-spec black convertible soft top, and polishing the matching hardtop that had been refinished in black under prior ownership. Mechanical attention included brake service, minor electrical and lighting updates, and the replacement of various trim and wear items such as pedal rubbers, mirrors, and sun visors. The extensive factory chrome trim was carefully removed and correctly sorted. The blue leather interior remains original, complemented by grey carpets and the well intact wood trim. The factory Becker radio has been professionally refurbished, and the original clock remains in working condition. The heater and blower operate properly. This car also includes rare Euro-spec features such as a metric speedometer (in kilometers), Euro headlamps and parking lights, and a blue leather rear jump seat. All factory glass is original. There is evidence of body and paint work having been performed on the vehicle. Additional items include the original jack, tire iron, spare tire with cover, and a copy of the Mercedes-Benz data card confirming factory specifications and option codes. The car now features an updated electronic ignition (points eliminated) for improved reliability, while retaining its original fuel system components. The sale includes one set of keys, with the information and numbers on the data card to easily have more sets produced.
