Classic Car Overview
1966 Dodge Charger In 1965 AMC introduced the Rambler Marlin which was marketed as a personal luxury car. This emerging market niche proved to be popular so other manufacturers responded with their own versions. Mercury had the Cougar as the upscale version of the Mustang and Dodges answer was the Charger. Introduced in 1966, the Charger featured upscale trim, comfort features and was released as a luxurious fastback hardtop. Although the muscle car flavor was there, the goal was to compete more with the Toronado and Thunderbirds rather than the pony cars. It was based on the Chrysler B body and shared a lot of components with the Dodge Coronet. This 1966 Charger is a stunning example of one of these early models. We love every car we get to represent but this one is very special. The car is 1 out of 250 but the quality of the restoration makes it 1 of a kind. It underwent a concours level restoration by After Hours Restoration in Michigan. The builder works for Chrysler and is a Mopar aficionado who builds a car every few years on the side. So they have both the knowledge and deep love for these cars. The car is breathtaking in person and is a Gold National show winner with plenty of other awards as well. Every inch of this car has been taken to factory stock condition down to the smallest details. It literally looks like a car fresh out of the factory. The Poly Red Burgundy paint is flawless and it looks like it was just sprayed yesterday. All of the chrome has a beautiful shine and that full length grill with hideaway lights is so iconic. In back it has the wall to wall taillight topped with the Charger emblems. The tinted glass is all good and it has the drivers side only mirror. Even if you arent a Mopar fan there is no question about how special this car is in history. It rides on the correct wheels and even the tires are period correct blue line bias plys. In addition to the level of restoration this car received it is also very rare. What makes it 1 of 250 is the dual quad 426 Hemi paired with a 4 speed and Dana rear. This is the largest motor available and also the the most rare. Cars like this were reserved for the upper class that wanted the best of the best. It is an incredibly powerful combination and sounds amazing. Under the hood it is exactly how it looked in 1966 down to the most minor details like Mopar hoses. It currently has a modern battery but does come with a period correct Mopar battery for show. Looking underneath you will see purposely placed overspray so even the factory flaws are mimicked by the car. It is truly amazing how accurate the car is and it almost seems like it would have been an impossible task to complete. It was indeed completed though and the result is second to none. It isnt just looks though because the car drives great and has 636 miles since completion. As if the car wasnt impressive enough, the interior alone is a work of art. From the factory these cars were designed with
