The Shelby GT350 wasn't the only high-performance Mustang available if you wanted a fast pony.

Classic Car Overview

For 1966, Chevrolet redesigned its Chevy II lineup (of which the Nova was an upscale trim level), giving the popular compact car a more substantial and sporty appearance. That brawnier style worked to great effect for the Nova Super Sport (SS) version of the popular compact car. That year also marked the only official model year that the hot L79 327 V8 with 350 horsepower was available. Though a six-cylinder engine was standard on the SS, a 283 V8 was optional, as were a pair of 327s a 275 horsepower version as well as that mighty L79.

This real deal, low-original-mileage (49,015 miles) 1966 Nova Super Sport has been meticulously restored and sports NOS body panels that are straight as an arrow. Lustrous Blue paint covers that excellent body and panel gaps are even. The underside, glass and bright trim are also in impressive condition. Rally wheels with redline radials finish it off nicely.

Bucket seats and a Corvette-style, woodgrain-rimmed steering wheel highlight the interior, whose bright blue color is a nice change from the more typical black or tan. The upholstery, door panels, headliner and carpeting are all factory correct and look as minty fresh as the rest of the car, attesting to the high quality of the restoration.

In place of the original engine this Nova SS packs a fully rebuilt, 1970 LT-1 350 V8 that cranks out around 370 horsepower, while ceramic coated headers and a dual exhaust system provides the proper soundtrack. A four core radiator keeps things cool while the TH350 automatic features a Hurst Dual-Gate shifter that allows fully automatic or manual gear changes. The power then flows to a 3.55 Positraction rear end. Power steering, manual brakes (front disc) and tubular control arms provide handling to go with the performance.

With L79-equipped Novas now selling in the neighborhood of $85,000, this beautiful Nova SS we have here presents an enticing alternative that offers the same thrills for about half the price. Please call Carroll Street Auto at (603) 627-5595 for further information or to schedule time to view this sharp Nova. Financing is offered through our approved lender, trades are welcome and enclosed shipping can be arranged.
